Crytek has some new additions up its sleeve for Hunt: Showdown this summer. The new trailer shows equipment, rain and a giant crocodile

At the beginning of June, the Hunt developers released a first trailer for the upcoming summer event “Tide of Shadows” – and it”s quite something. The video, which you can watch above, offers players a first glimpse of the new boss monster named Rotjaw as well as numerous other hints about upcoming changes in Hunt: Showdown.

No cage can hold this beast

But in order. The new target Rotjaw is Crytek”s answer to the community”s repeated demand for a new boss monster. After all, we have slowly but surely become accustomed to spider, junk beak and co.

Now Crytek has let the cat, or rather the crocodile, out of the bag and shown the new monster for the first time. The giant lizard roams the swamps of the bayou in search of fresh prey and mercilessly attacks all hunters who get too close.

Rotjaw relies primarily on its powerful jaws. The trailer shows how the crocodile repeatedly dashes through the water and bites with its razor-sharp teeth. Accordingly, it will be important for players to keep as far away from it as possible. Like the other bosses, Rotjaw is supposed to switch to a rage mode when it is wounded. Then the crocodile lashes out especially furiously.

At the beginning of the round, Rotjaw should still be trapped in a cage. However, when he reaches a certain level, he can free himself and gives free rein to his anger. The trailer shows numerous broken cages. Where Rotjaw came from and who transported him to the bayou is still unclear. We will probably be allowed to examine the lizard”s background story in more detail in the upcoming event.

Regnerable Prospects

But an even more significant innovation might be the rain , which initially ripples atmospherically in the trailer, but then expands into a thunderous storm. The rain is likely to turn Hunt”s gameplay on its head, as it affects both our range of sight and hearing.

During a thunderstorm, it will be much more difficult to spot approaching enemies or to unerringly locate shots and soaring ravens. At the same time, however, Hunt becomes a lot more atmospheric. “Tide of Shadows” thus joins the ranks of the past Inferno event, which covered the game world with blazing flames. Whether the rain will now be added permanently as a random time of day in Hunt or, like the forest fires, will only be temporary, is not yet known.

What else is new?

Besides thunderstorms and angry crocodiles, the new update is said to offer other not-so-obvious new features; including, among others:

  • New legendary hunters.
  • Portable medikits and toolboxes as equipment items
  • New Battlepass items like a knife and an explosive bolt for the crossbow.

It”s the new equipment that could become a real gamechanger alongside the weather. More flexible healing options allow new approaches to bosses and battles with other players.

Crytek has not yet given a concrete release date for “Tide of Shadows”. But we will have to be patient for a little while longer. The next update in Hunt will be 1.13, which will include a shooting range for trying out the arsenal of weapons.

What do you think: Do you like the rain and the new boss or did you already find the fire of the Inferno event annoying? Feel free to discuss in the comments.
