The Frankfurt studio behind Crysis, Hunt and the Cryengine lays off 60 employees and shifts its focus entirely to the successful multiplayer game.

While Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is currently celebrating success with the Cryengine, its developer has no good news to report. Crytek has to lay off some of its employees and also has no positive news for fans of Crysis.

Layoffs at Crytek

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the company explains that Crytek, like many others, is not “immune to the complex and unfavorable market dynamics of recent years”

For this reason, about 15 percent of the 400 employees , so a good 60 people , have to leave the company. The layoffs affect both the development teams and the administration.

Despite attempts to reduce costs, there was no other option but to lay off employees. Crytek explains that it is offering those affected severance pay and help with further career planning.

Hunt ahead of Crysis

The social media post also reveals that Crytek has put the development of a new installment in the Crysis series, , on hold until the third quarter of 2024, . While this doesn’t mean that Crysis 4 is completely off the table, work has been paused for an as-yet-unknown period of time.

The developers switched to the team of Hunt: Showdown 1896, on which Crytek now wants to focus all its efforts and develop it further with “great new content”.

Another important mainstay of the studio is, of course, the Cryengine, which is not only used for its own games. Developer Warhorse used the engine from Germany for both parts of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, just like Arkane Studio for the sci-fi shooter Prey.

Last year, Hunt: Showdown reinvented itself and received the biggest update to the game so far, including a graphics upgrade and a new name. While this scored points with fans in terms of content, it caused many technical problems that could only be resolved with a few patches.
