Which is the best Stalker?
If you want to spend a maximum of five euros and therefore have to choose one of the Stalker parts, we think you should go for the original Shadow of Chernobyl from 2007. It introduces you perfectly to the unique game world around the damaged nuclear reactor of Chernobyl.
The stories of the standalone sequels are set apart from the events of the main game and build on each other. However, they put you in the shoes of different protagonists and are therefore also well playable separately. There is no savegame import
Call of Pripyat is also a good starting point if you want to explore the open world a little more freely and not be ambushed by overpowering enemies at every corner at the beginning. In terms of game mechanics, it is the most sophisticated of the three parts. However, it is precisely the dangerousness of the zone that contributes to the incomparable stalker flair. But that’s not to say that Call of Pripyat would be a walk in the park!
Only for the hard-boiled
Clear Sky is unanimously regarded as the worst incarnation of the Stalker trilogy. The prequel recycles the world of Shadow of Chernobyl, but gives the familiar locations a new twist. Speaking of twists: the story in Clear Sky is not as easy to understand as in its predecessors. The focus is on the sandbox, not on a linear campaign.
Mods make everything better
Over the years, the stalker community has created countless ambitious mod projects. They add features that were once planned but lost in development, raise the bar in terms of difficulty and realism, or add entirely new weapons, enemies and areas. Our download tip: Anomaly for Call of Pripyat
The big new feature of Clear Sky, the faction war, should actually bring even more life and dynamism into the game, because now the human inhabitants are also controlled by AI and act against each other depending on the player. Due to the poor production quality of the game, however, numerous bugs still make life difficult for you here.
In contrast, the upgrade options for your weapons are exciting, introducing a little more long-term motivation into the well-known stalker formula.
