The great strategy game from developer Paradox Interactive gets even bigger with the new DLC, but also more diverse.

With the DLC Roads to Power, Crusader Kings 3 offers a new way to rule your empire, one that differs from previous methods. It also introduces a new way to play, one that almost turns the strategy title into an RPG.

Roads to Power was released on September 24, 2024 on Steam and the Microsoft Store for 30 dollars.

Many roads lead to power

The DLC offers you two new career paths As a nobleman in the Byzantine Empire, you face not a feudal system but anadministrative government This consists of a network of governors competing for positions in the empire.

Of course you are part of this – whether you play fair or not is, as always, up to you. Should you become emperor, the game does not stop and you have to keep other aspiring nobles under control.

In the second variant, you can play as an adventurer without possessions or land, roaming the realms. Over generations, you accumulate gold, fame and power until you settle down somewhere.

Roads to Power also includes numerous new elements related to the theme of Byzantium. These include Byzantine clothing for the nobles at court, activities such as horse racing, and music inspired by Christian Orthodox chants.

What players say

On Steam, Roads to Power is in the top… 93 percent positive ratings(based on 314 reviews). Friedrich I says: “The best DLC in the game. Thanks to the developers, keep it up.”

Steam user t00t particularly likes the role-playing aspect as an adventurer: “I can finally play myself in one of my favorite games. I wander drunk through medieval Europe, not knowing what I’m doing or where I’m going. Brilliant.”

Similar positive posts about the DLC can be found on Reddit. UnitedLink4545 writes under a post: “I’m really having fun. It’s such a refreshing way to play.” Reddit user ViktorRzh explains: “It’s basically a new game within the game.«

The initial response to Road to Powers has been very positive, but it remains to be seen how well the new Crusader Kings 3 DLC will fare in the long run. On Reddit, some users are also urging caution and plan to wait and see. But Paradox Interactive may have created one of the best expansions for the strategy game.
