The black expanse is an absolute cult among dragonbloods. Thanks to the UE5 feature Lumen, many fans’ jaws are currently dropping

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim offers some iconic locations whose first visit is forever etched in our memories. Sovngarde, High Hrothgar, Whitewalk – and especially Blackreach

Schwarzweite is simply iconic! We never forget the moment when we wandered through the corridors and underground halls for the first time and no daylight reached our skin for days.

But that’s not what today is about. Instead, we want to show you a YouTube video. In it you can see: Blackness in the Unreal Engine 5.

Lumen flexes his muscles

Thanks to the prominent UE5 feature Lumen, the underground Dwemer ruins shine in new splendor. Incidentally, the builder named Leo Torres has not simply adopted the black width known from Skyrim 1:1.

Rather, he has created what he says is a more lore-accurate variant that offers significantly larger caves than the original. Impressive: thanks to Lumen, the area shown in the video is illuminated solely by bioluminescent mushrooms, aetherium veins and glowworms.

According to him, the computing work involved also makes his powerful Geforce RTX 3090 break out in a sweat and uses the card’s full 24 GB of VRAM.

Fans are beside themselves

The comments below the video speak for themselves. Many Skyrim fans are excited about the UE5 remake:

Fantastic! What I wouldn’t give to play a version of Skyrim like this:

Imagine Skyrim being remade on this scale. Maybe one day…

And there’s also a little dig at Bethesda guru Todd Howard’s famous statement in the comments:

By the way: Did you know that a visit to Schwarzweite is not only recommended because of the great view, but also offers gameplay advantages? Only in Blackreach can you find purple nirnwort in Skyrim, which you can use for your alchemical projects.

Finally, a note on the YouTube channel linked above: Leo Torres has already recreated several other locations from Skyrim in the UE5. So if you like his variant of the Black Reach, it certainly won’t hurt to take a look at his other videos!

What an actual 16 times the details looks like: amazing!
