ChatGPT is based on the language model GPT. The long-awaited new version GPT-4 has now been officially announced. All info here.
The hype around ChatGPT continues and the announcement of GPT-4 certainly doesn”t detract from it. After all, AI enthusiasts have been waiting for the new GPT version for years now.
After the surprise announcement of the new GPT-4 language model by German Microsoft CTO Andreas Baum on 09 March 2023, it has now been (officially unveiled by OpenAI). What the new language model can do, how to use GPT-4 and what the new ChatGPT version can do for you, you can find out now.
What can GPT-4 do?
GPT is the language model on which the popular text AI ChatGPT is based. It was based on GPT-3.5 , but is now to become much more powerful through GPT-4. The AI company talks about the model being “more creative and collaborative” and able to “solve difficult problems more easily” than ever before.
The differences to GPT-4 are (according to OpenAI) rather inconspicuous in a normal conversation. Especially in more complex tasks, the differences should be noticeable.
One of the biggest innovations: GPT-4 can respond to text and image input However, the language model is still only supposed to output text. This is not always supposed to be 100 per cent on a “human level”, but the language model is said to have been tested with many professional and academic benchmarks
The US bar exam (Bar Exam), for example, the AI passed and was in the top ten percent of participants. By comparison, GPT-3.5 was only in the worst ten percent.
You can watch how GPT-4 performs compared to GPT-3.5 in the developer livestream:
How to use GPT-4 (free)?
There are two ways to use GPT-4 right now. Let”s start with the most direct way for which there is a charge.
1
1. use GPT-4 with ChatGPT Plus
The brand new language model was implemented by OpenAI directly in ChatGPT. However, only in the paid subscription model ChatGPT Plus. It costs 20 dollars a month and allows you to use ChatGPT with fast answers and at any time.

– OpenAI (@OpenAI) March 14, 2023
Good to know: GPT-4, like GPT-3.5 before it, will be released as an API to allow developers to build on it. There is a waiting list for this. Interested parties have already been invited one by one since 14 March 2023.
2. Use GPT-4 with Microsoft Bing for free
Bing is the search engine from Microsoft that is finally supposed to compete with Google after years by being equipped with ChatGPT. With it, you can use GPT-4 for free.
Until mid-March 2023, you still had to register on a waiting list and wait patiently. Until now, the waiting list part is still active, but at the moment you will mostly be invited directly. So you will be able to enjoy the new technology quite quickly.
Has GPT-4 weaknesses?
In short, yes, even the new language model is not without its flaws and weaknesses. OpenAI points out that the language model still tends to invent information Anyone who has used ChatGPT knows that this does not happen too often unless provoked. Still, keep an eye on it.
The ability to identifyfalse information has probably increased by quite a bit compared to GPT-3.5. OpenAI speaks of an improvement of 40 per cent.
The German Microsoft CTO Andreas Baum had hinted at GPT-4 being able to output videos during his spontaneous announcement a few days ago However, OpenAI did not say anything about videos in connection with ChatGPT or GPT-4 What do you think of GPT-4? Will you use it over Bing or ChatGPT Plus? Feel free to give us a rationale if you want. Have you already been bitten by the AI bug? What keeps you from using AIs? What are the arguments in favour? As always, feel free to write us your opinions and views in the comments!
