Intel can’t keep up: First retailers can’t deliver replacements for defective CPUs, offer cash instead

About two months ago, CPU manufacturer Intel issued a warranty extension in the wake of the degradation problems surrounding the 13th and 14th generation processors

Affected users should contact Intel support to have the defective CPU replaced.

However, initial reports are emerging that Intel and retailers already do not have enough replacement chips to keep up. At least the replacement still seems to be going smoothly

In detail:About a week and a half ago, a much-discussed post by the user “Towel4” appeared in the Intel subreddit, who contacted the chip manufacturer’s customer service directly for the replacement process.

  • According to the response from the support employee, Towel4 was able to determine that an exchange would have to be carried out – but they simply no longer have any i9-13900K in stock.
  • An upgrade to a “higher and compatible replacement” (i.e. the i9-14900K) could not be offered either, as there is no stock left here either.
  • As a result, users would have to wait a little over a month before a replacement CPU could be delivered.

Towel4 is located in the USA, as can be seen from the Reddit comments. But Intel doesn’t seem to be keeping up elsewhere either when it comes to the promised implementation of warranty cases

In Hong Kong, money is offered instead of an exchange

AsVideocardzreports, citing theHKEPC portalthe situation in Hong Kong is somewhat different. Instead of a waiting period for a new Intel CPU, those affected receive a different offer: cash

  • So the OEM partner “Synnex” is said to have informed several users in the course of the warranty process that a refund of 4,200 Hong Kong dollars (equivalent to around 489 euros) will be made.
  • According to the portal, the user quoted is said to have accepted the refund offer and quickly sold almost all the components of his Intel PC in order to replace the entire system.

We have not yet received any user reports that Intel is having problems with the replacement process in this country
