Ubisoft still has a lot planned for its melee combat simulator for all kinds of sharp and blunt weapons. And it seems to be paying off: The title has reached 35 million players.

During the latest livestream of the regularly held Warrior’s Den series, which focuses on Ubisoft’s title For Honor the French publisher had a lot to present:  A much-anticipated hero, a sizable player count and info on the future of the medieval action combat simulator.

Be curious and let us tell you, fair warriors and fighters!

Year 8, 35 million and one Varangian

Let’s start with a remarkable mark that For Honor has now broken, according to Ubisoft: During the livestream, it was announced that a total of 35 million people have taken up arms in Ubisoft’s fighting game in one form or another.

New hero: From February 1, the Varangian Guard will join the fighting folk. Armed with axe and shield, he is sometimes the first fully armed Viking for many a fan of the Norse people  Although the Scandinavian warriors already existed, they were always more like light to medium-armoured troops.

From February 14, it can also be purchased with 15,000 steel – the in-game currency – before that only with real money.

What is a Varangian?  The Varangians were the bodyguard of the Byzantine Emperor in the High Middle Ages. Initially at least, they consisted of Scandinavian Vikings. They got their name, which is still known today, from the Slavs, who lived in the immediate vicinity or sometimes within the Byzantine Empire. Plans for year 8: Released in 2017, For Honor will end its seventh year of life in March 2024. In addition to new maps, two more new heroes will be added during the eighth season with future title updates.

Legacy Pass: This allows you to unlock Battle Passes from previous years and Seasons and continue your progress from back then. If you already owned a pass back then, you don’t have to pay again. And if you want, you can even fight your way up several at the same time.

To this day, For Honor is conceptually unique. And although it flies under the radar for many, it can be sure of a loyal player base thanks to its clear focus and constant maintenance. Are you one of them? And if you regularly cross swords, axes, spears or other weapons with others, feel free to take us onto the battlefield in the comments: What makes For Honor particularly appealing to you?
