A remaster of GTA 4: Some of you have been hoping for this for many years. Rumours keep boiling up – but there was bad news in 2022. According to insiders Rockstar actually wanted to deliver a remaster at one point, but that was supposedly axed after the messed-up remaster trilogy.
Now, however, there is new hope among some fans and insiders because the hints about Red Dead Redemption Remastered are just getting stronger. Could Rockstar also take GTA 4 out of the mothballs again?
Update as of 6 July 2023: Another possible hint of a GTA 4 remaster has surfaced and it comes from the most reliable source of all – Take-Two themselves. According to a (Financial Report) on plans for the 2024 financial year, “two remasters of previously released titles” are planned. These could theoretically be remasters for Red Dead Redemption and GTA 4.
However, other games are also being considered, possibly also ports of existing games for new platforms. Why some fans still believe in GTA 4 Remaster, you can read from here in the original message:
What’s up with the alleged remasters?
No official confirmation yet that Red Dead Redemption is getting a remaster, but the signs are pretty clear: For example, the game just underwent a new age check in South Korea, usually a clear indication of a re-release.
Okay, but what does this have to do with GTA 4? Rockstar insider Gaming Detective commented on Twitter. He speculates that the GTA 4 remaster is also still in the works, or at least in the planning stages, if the developer studio has only paused its remaster plans and not cancelled them.
If the rumours are true and the Red Dead Redemption remaster was never cancelled, that means the GTA 4 remaster is likely still in development alongside it.
It’s one of the most anticipated projects from Rockstar… hope to see it come out eventually. pic.twitter.com/lIsFQt8rwU

While many express hope in the comments to the tweet, there are also concerns. After all, the remasters were never officially announced and currently Rockstar is likely to concentrate fully on GTA 6.
In principle, a GTA 4 remaster is not unlikely, after all, it is one of Rockstar’s most popular games, which is now quite outdated.
The question is, whether and when the studio will invest money in a remake and what impact the embarrassment of the trilogy remaster had on such plans – many fans have not forgotten that by a long shot. Equally unclear is which platforms the remaster would be released for
What’s currently floating around Twitter, Reddit and co. are only speculations and hopes so far, there is no concrete announcement. It’s better to remain sceptical as long as no clear evidence emerges.
What do you think of the rumours and musings surrounding a remaster of GTA 4? Would you rather see a complete remake or are you maybe still completely satisfied with the original?
