At the beginning of April we had already talked about HBO Max working on the rights for a Harry Potter series. Last night the official confirmation followed with a small teaser on social media.

Ten years passed between the publication of the first and the last book. Exactly the same amount of time passed between the release of the first and last film. HBO announced in a press release that the upcoming Harry Potter series will also run for a decade.

Over this period of time, each season will represent a book, so that there will be enough time for a real deep dive into the lore.

Now it has also been revealed that author and creator J.K. Rowling will join the series as an executive producer. In a statement, she explains: [HBO’s] Max’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of my books is important to me, and I look forward to being involved in this new adaptation, which will allow for a depth and detail that only a long-running television series can provide.

Lately, the author has made headlines mostly for her transphobic statements. This did not only go down badly with fans. Various actors from the series such as Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson also distanced themselves from her. Radcliffe even made an appearance recently when he joined six young nonbinary and trans people in a group conversation in the first episode of a new web series.
