The clown-faced villain even increased player numbers tenfold for a short time. But this is by no means the salvation for Suicide Squad
The first season of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is starting with an increase in player numbers on Steam, but this is not a turnaround for the service game from publisher Warner Bros. Games and developer Rocksteady Studios.
Not even DC’s poster child of a villain, the Joker, can successfully lend a helping hand to the struggling team of antiheroes.
Suicide Squad: A brief resurgence on Steam
Season 1 started on March 28, about two months after the release. The focus of the season is the Joker, who is the latest playable character
With the new content update, some players did indeed return to Steam. While Suicide Squad struggled with just a few hundred players in the run-up, the numbers shot up from just under 300 to over 3,000 according to SteamDB v
Within a few days, however, interest flattened out again and the number of players peaked at just under 1,000 – Trending downwards
Season content cannot convince players
As usual with service games, the first season of Suicide Squad also has a Battle Pass, through which the Joker must first be unlocked
For Gotham’s Clown, players must unlock level 35, i.e. about half of the Battle Pass. However, there is an alternative way to obtain the Joker directly. However, this costs 10 euros
According to video game journalist Paul Tassi, the season is characterized above all by a lack of content. According to a post on X, formerly Twitter, players have to grind around 15 – 20 old missions to get the Joker.
Hard to understate how bad the Suicide Squad Joker season is:
– Motion comic intro, no story missions
– Grind 15-20 old mission types to unlock Joker
– New incursions are old objectives
– Pretty sure my mastery levels are bug locked
– Boss fight another reskinned campaign fight– Paul Tassi (@PaulTassi) March 28, 2024
The season is not going down well with the fans either. One Reddit post calls it an “absolute disaster” to only get the Joker to level 35. The user Ok-Month-5726 believes this is how they want to get players to buy it.
Even players like Reddit user Splunkmastah, who are actually having fun with the game, question the choice between paywall and grind and also wonder why nothing is being done about the many bugs and glitches.
So even the Joker can’t stop the downward trend of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The service game meets with a lot of resistance from fans, which surprising conclusion Warner Bros.
