If you want to know what else is going on with Star Wars on Disney Plus, we can of course also help you.

Everything you need to know about Kenobi

Release: When does Kenobi launch

Kenobi will launch on Disney Plus on May 27, 2022 – two days after the original release date, as announced by Ewan McGregor himself. Disney and Lucasfilm have now officially announced this. As usual, the episodes will be released at weekly intervals, so not all episodes will be available at once on 27 May, but the first two will be.

Platform: Where is Kenobi available?

Kenobi will be released exclusively on Disney Plus – just like all other current Star Wars series. So you don’t have to expect a release on platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Apple+ and Co.

Seasons and episodes: How extensive will Kenobi be?

Kenobi will have a total of one season and six episodes. After that it’s actually(!) over, because the project is strictly speaking a Limited Series designed. This means that there will be no season 2 or 3. Of course, it cannot be completely ruled out that Disney will overturn its plans in this regard if, for example, fans are hungry for more or Ewan McGregor would be available for more seasons.

And so Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy (via Entertainment Weekly) has already rowed back in this regard, revealing to Entertainment Weekly that a season 2 is indeed already being discussed. However, there would have to be a good reason to continue the story because the first six episodes are self-contained. So fans will have to wait and see, but the chances don’t seem too bad.

Story: What is Kenobi about?

The story of Kenobi takes place between Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith and Episode 4 – A New Hope. So we join Obi-Wan Kenobi as he watches over young Luke Skywalker on Tatooine after the fall of the Republic and the demise of the Jedi Order. Officially, there are few other additional story details, but we already know more thanks to leaks and insiders.

Warning: the following paragraph contains spoilers

Totally speaking, Kenobi takes place ten years after Episode 3. However, the plot is not only supposed to take place on Tatooine, Obi-Wan also reportedly leaves the desert planet in the meantime. Kenobi is hunted by the Inquisitor Reva, among others, and in the process finds himself on other planets – including Daiyu, which is said to be somewhat reminiscent of Hong Kong.

Hayden Christensen will appear as Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader respectively, Kathleen Kennedy promises a rematch of the century. There will also be flashbacks to the time of the Clone Wars, where we should see Obi-Wan and Anakin in their old dynamic again.]

Trailer: What’s currently available to watch on Kenobi?

Yes, a trailer for the Kenobi series has finally been released on 9 March 2022. It shows Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) watching over a young Luke Skywalker. However, Inquisitors – including Reva (Moses Ingram) – seem to be on his trail. Because of this, Kenobi may be forced to leave Tatooine and seek out the planet Daiyu, among other places.

Second trailer for May the 4th: On 4 May 2022 – the official Star Wars day – the second trailer for Kenobi followed. It doesn’t show too much new, but rather supplementary material to already known scenes. Particularly exciting, however, is the return of Darth Vader, which the new preview of the TV series makes no secret of:

On March 9, 2022, the official Twitter account for the Kenobi series shared an Entertainment Weekly exclusive cover that gives us a better look at Ewan McGregor in the role of the Jedi Master. More pictures from the TV series can be found at the US magazine, which we are not allowed to upload for copyright reasons.

First picture of Darth Vader: On 10 March 2022, a first photo followed, showing Hayden Christensen in the role of the fallen Jedi Anakin Skywalker and Lord of the Sith Darth Vader. Here we see the right hand of Emperor Palpatine once again in his castle on Mustafar, as in the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. According to Christensen, a very powerful Vader is to appear in Kenobi.
