Killing Floor 3 shows real gameplay for the first time and reveals the big changes that await you in the third installment

Killing Floor 3 has shown a new trailer at the PC Gaming Show 2024 and promises to take the chaos and action of the popular franchise to a new level. Tripwire Interactive has not only polished up the graphics with Unreal Engine 5, but also radically overhauled the gameplay to offer you a more intense and tactical experience, as the developers reveal in an interview with PC Gamer.

What to expect in Killing Floor 3

The most noticeable change in Killing Floor 3 is the switch to a futuristic setting: Forget the previous post-apocalyptic locations, here you can expect biomechanical nightmares and high-tech environments that are more reminiscent of films like Alien and Event Horizon.

The expansion is supposed to continue the story of Diablo 4 directly. You come to Nahanta in search of Neyrelle, who wants to face Mephisto, who is imprisoned there. As usual, the fate of Sanctuary hangs in the balance.

World: What can you expect in Nahanta?

In Nahanta, you will probably have to fight your way through dense jungle and dusty desert plains and can discover ruins, dungeons, bases or new cities there.

Of course, the familiar zeds return, but this time they’re deadlier and more versatile. The enemies are no longer just cannon fodder, but challenge you with unique abilities. For example, you’ll have to adapt to the climbing skills of the xenomorph-like crawlers that attack you from all sides. The Scrake in particular, now equipped with a chainsaw and grappling hook, will give you a fright by dragging you across the map and then sawing you apart.

While the predecessors focused on fast-paced battles against hordes of enemies, Killing Floor 3 has slowed down the pace somewhat. Instead, the zeds are now individually more challenging. This should make every fight feel more intense and strategic, as you now have to target weak points with less armor, for example.

The next major innovation is the specialist system, which replaces the previous classes. Each specialist has their own weapons and gadgets that are tailored to their role. The Commando, for example, has access to a variety of assault rifles, while the Firebug is equipped with flamethrowers.

Each specialist also has an ultimate ability to help you out in tricky situations. The Commando, for example, fights his way through the hordes with an acid drone, while the Engineer tears his opponents to pieces with sonic cannons.

Finally, new movement options such as zip lines and ladders are intended to make the maps more dynamic and enable new tactical maneuvers. The weapon configuration system also offers numerous customization options. With various attachments, the weapons can be adapted to your own style of play.

Whether drum magazine, grenade launcher or sight – the choice is yours. However, it is not yet known when Killing Floor 3 will be released
