Insiders claim a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, two remasters of its predecessors and several Silent Hill spin-offs are in development.

After Hideo Kojima left Konami in 2015, few positive headlines followed with its most famous brands Metal Gear and Silent Hill. As the last game of the Metal Gear brand, Konami sent Metal Gear Survive into the race in 2018, which received moderate reviews at best from the press. Passionate fans who resented Konami’s messy split from industry genius Kojima chastised the game.

Now something might be stirring at Metal Gear and Silent Hill: As the magazine Videogames Chronicle (VGC) has heard from insiders, a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is said to be in early development. Many fans consider the game to be the best part of the series.

The big international studio Virtuos, which was involved in Horizon Zero Dawn and Battlefield 1, among others, is supposedly responsible. Remasters of Metal Gear 1 and 2 for consoles are also to come, if the anonymous sources are right. The source does not mention any platforms for Metal Gear Solid 3.

New Silent Hill?

And that’s not all: several spin-offs of the Silent Hill brand, one of the most successful horror brands of the late 1990s, 2000s and ’10s, are currently said to be in development. A prominent Japanese developer, who was not named in detail, is said to be in charge. What kind of games are involved also remains in the dark.

So far, only P.T., a playable teaser that caused a stir in 2014, existed for a planned Silent Hills, but was discontinued after Konami’s separation from Hideo Kojima. Nevertheless, Konami stated at the time that talks were underway with Kojima Productions to continue the series in the future. So the fact that the prominent Japanese developer is Kojima Productions is within the realm of possibility.

More background: In 2020, rumours made the rounds that Sony was very interested in buying Metal Gear and Silent Hill from Konami. Even then, the chances were slim, and to this day nothing has come of the alleged deal. Sony has also been trying to reconcile Konami and Hideo Kojima for some time to make a new Silent Hill possible.
