Surprises, twists and turns and the last hope for Korea – the League of Legends World Championship is inevitably heading towards its own climax. There were plenty of twists and surprises in the quarter-finals, with China in particular emerging victorious, with one exception
The hot phase of the League of Legends World Championship has recently begun, with the Quarter Finals being the perfect way to reach the semi-finals. NRG, the last remaining Western representative, faced Weibo Gaming from the LPL. Any hopes that LCS and LEC fans had of the team progressing were laid to rest in the second match of the best-of-five series. Playing it cool, the LPL fourth-placed team secured their place in the next round, while NRG, like G2 Esports and Fnatic before them, were sent home.
Pure surprise
The spectators then got to see the first real top match with the game between GEN G and BLG. LPL runners-up BLG got off to a flying start and secured the first two rounds. So it was hardly surprising that GEN G’s alarm bells started ringing immediately, as they could not and did not want to bow out of the tournament on home soil without a sound, as they had done in 2018.
The LCK first team put up a corresponding fight. ADC Peyz in particular excelled in match number three and secured the first point for his team. In the next game, as on Kai’Sa before, he gave his all with Kalista and, together with Mid Laner Chovy and Jungler Peanut , ensured that a winner had to be found on the all-important fifth map. But no matter how hard they tried, in the end it was BLG who triumphed and will therefore face league rival Weibo Gaming in the semi-finals. The first surprise of the tournament was perfect:

JDG on final course & Korea’s hopefuls
No surprises were to be found in the clash between KT Rolster and LPL champion and MSI winner JD Gaming. Although the Koreans were still able to hold their own on the first map, from game two onwards it was exclusively JDG that set the tone in the Rift. Accordingly, the now sole title contender secured victory, albeit with a small stumble, and will face Korea’s last hopeful in the second semi-final of Worlds 2023
This is once again record-breaking world champion T1 with superstar Faker The latter was up against LNG, another Chinese representative, but was able to play him to the ground. From game one, Gumayusi, Faker & Co. dominated their opponents and secured an unchallenged 3:0 victory in the end. This means that the well-known traditional team is the last remaining LCK representative in the semi-finals of the 2023 Worlds and, if they beat JDG, could once again make it to the final of the World Cup.
