Lawn Mowing Simulator was released on 10 August. Some players put a lot of passion into their user reviews – and we learn a lot about lawn mowing from them.
Lawn mowing may sound like an unusual game idea at first. But on the curiosity scale from 1 to dictator dating sim, Lawn Mowing Simulator seems downright banal. At least until you take a look at the Steam reviews – because there’s a hell of a lot of heart and soul in them.
We share the funniest and most interesting reviews with you. If you want to get the Lawn Mowing Simulator yourself: Until 24 August you can get it on Steam for 25.50 Euros, 15 percent off. But you’d better read the article first before you put it in your shopping basket. Because it should help you with your purchase decision.
Mowing the lawn triggers strong feelings in the players
What is Lawn Mowing Simulator all about? You clamp one of 12 licensed ride-on mowers under your butt and then trim pretty British front gardens. Your machines and your company can be upgraded and customised.
In the trailer, the simulator makes itself comfortable with soft sounds and sunshine:
But there’s fire in the Steam reviews: garden experts and lawn mower fans have a lot to say. For example, Ty5123’s review, which was singled out as particularly helpful:
“I really wanted to like this game, but I’m 100 percent sure the developers didn’t mow their own lawns or even educate themselves on how the business works.
– Grass should be harder to cut in the rain
– Mowing tall grass too fast doesn’t ruin the engine so much that it burns out
– Why are there only ride-on mowers and no classic hand lawn mowers?
– Why is there no speed adjustment and no speed lock? Almost every mower has one. (…)
– The mown grass looks awful, it’s not even satisfying to mow
This is not a simulator, it’s an arcade game as you would see on mobile platforms.”
The developers have responded to this review, promising improvements to the gameplay
Lawn Mowing
In the suburbs
User giv_me_hell complains that when mowing “no grass juice splashes, no grass sticks to the tyres and no Carolina pigeons coo in the background”. At least the last point can be explained by the setting: Carolina doves actually live in America; they have only been sighted five times in the British Isles. Which brings us to the bird fact of the day. By the way, you can find the Bird Simulator here at Steam.
Flyingpoptartcats would also like to see more realism. In the very instructive review, the owner of a lawn mowing company writes:
“(…) Worst of all, why are we cutting the grass at 2.5 inches? Are we $20 mowers? A cold season lawn should be at least 3.5 inches long. Looks great at 4 – 4.5 inches. 3/10 for effort.”
But there are also many enthusiastic reviews, overall Lawn Mowing Simulator stands at “mostly positive”. Qaulity, for example, confirms how realistic mowing feels after 12 hours of play:
“This game is the absolute chillfest. I can’t stop playing. I’m allergic to grass and my nose reacted from mowing in the game!”
We leave the final word to Steam user CDROn, who is finally free to enjoy his virtual lawn mowing:
“Finally, I don’t have to wait for my lawn to grow until I can mow. Plus, you can mow this lawn naked and drinking without being judged by the neighbours or tased by the police.”
