This week, Tencent Games announced the title “Light of Motiram”. It’s an open-world survival crafting game set in a post-apocalyptic world where giant mechanical beasts roam and humanity is trying to reinvent itself in a new primitive era. Not only the setting described is reminiscent of the Horizon franchise. The graphics and the first trailer are also raising eyebrows in the gaming community. It is all the more exciting that the title is not only to be released for PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and mobile (Android, iOS). A PS5 release is also planned.

Gameplay from Light of Motiram

The first trailers and gameplay footage released show an impressive world with lush rainforests, barren deserts and snow-capped mountain peaks. Players can discover unique “Mechanimals” and explore mysterious ruins as they unravel the secrets of Motiram. The game features a realistic, physics-based construction system and the ability to tame and train over 100 customizable mechanimals. The mechanimals can also be used in combat or in production tasks. Each mechanimal has unique abilities and growth options. This also makes the gameplay reminiscent of Palworld

In addition, Light of Motiramfocuses on survival gameplay: players have to manage resources, survive extreme weather conditions and stand up to powerful bosses. The physics-based construction engine allows you to design detailed and robust structures that can withstand environmental conditions. Creativity is rewarded here, as every construction follows the laws of real physics.

Tencent also says a few words about the combat system of . Here, precise timing and strategic action are of the essence. Our playable character not only has attacks at their disposal, but also evasive maneuvers and counterattacks.

Seamless co-op mode

“Light of Motiram” supports seamless co-op gameplay for up to ten players, enabling teams to work together to complete hunts, construction projects or other challenges. Thanks to cross-play, progress can be seamlessly synchronized across platforms.

A new clone, a new controversy?

However, these revelations have caused a stir in the gaming community. The depiction of a post-apocalyptic world dominated by mechanical creatures is reminiscent of the setting of Sony’s Horizon series. Some critics even go so far as to call it a “blatant copy”.

Look at these images. This isn’t Horizon. It’s Light of Motiram. How do you invest so much money and time into developing a game when you know it’s blatantly copying the core visual elements and art direction from another game? Like how do you confidently do it without thinking… https://t.co/olnEYoHGEW

The Tencent of Light of Motiramhave not commented on these comparisons so far. It remains to be seen how they will respond to the criticism and whether they will provide further information to highlight the uniqueness of their game.

Despite the controversy, the material released so far shows a technically impressive game with detailed graphics and a wide range of gameplay elements. However, only after release will it be clear whether Light of Motiram will be able to set itself apart from established titles with enough of its own unique touches. In the wake of this new controversy, we are excited to see how the drama surrounding Palworld unfolds.
