With a new mod, you can now also terraform with machines in LS22. How it works and which feature could be realised by it, we reveal to you here.
Since the release of Farming Simulator 22, diligent modders have been at work, regularly providing all passionate farmers with new content and features for free. One of the latest achievements is the script mod Terra Farm, which allows you to terraform with machines as well, instead of only from the construction mode.
We tried out the new mod for you and explain how it works and why it could pave the way for a hotly anticipated new feature in the game.
What the terraforming mod can do
With Terrafarm you have almost all terraforming possibilities of the landscaping mode with the supported machines at your disposal. You can fill in soil, level areas or dig pits. As in the construction mode, it is also possible to paint areas with different textures.
Once you have loaded your score with the terraforming mod, you can hop into your vehicle as usual, attach a suitable shovel and get started. Please note, however, which devices are compatible with the mod.
These devices from the basic game are compatible with the mod so far:
- Albutt – Universal bucket for front loader
- Magsi – Universal bucket for telescopic loader
- Magsi – High tipping bucket for wheel loader
- McCormack – High tipping bucket for wheel loader
- Paladin – High tipping bucket for skid steer loaders
But also some devices added to the game by mod already work with the terraforming mod. You can also dig up your farm with these equipment mods:
- Case CX250D long reach shovels
- CAT 990H bucket
- HAMM H11i road roller
- Liebherr R926 buckets
- Volvo EC750 buckets
- Volvo L-350H bucket
If you are controlling a device that is compatible with the mod, it is best to press F1 to switch on the help menu so that you can see all the keyboard commands at a glance. Press Z to activate and deactivate the mod’s functions. Remember to press Z again after terraforming so that you do not accidentally work the ground when loading goods.
Once the mod is activated with Z, you can use the X key to set the mining mode, i.e. to determine how the removal of soil with the shovel will affect the soil. As in construction mode, you can lower the soil, adjust it to a certain height or smooth it.
With the B key, on the other hand, you can change the unloading mode. Here you can choose whether you want to fill in terrain, adjust it, smooth it or simply colour it in a texture. You can also set it so that you only pour out mined soil so that it can be recharged afterwards.
Use Y to open the menu where you can adjust the mod’s functions. there you can set the strength of the shovel, for example, or the width of the brush you use to colour terrain in the desired texture.
How well does the work? The mod works relatively smoothly and those who are familiar with the LS22 will not need any training time to get to grips with the new features. However, since it is a development version, there are still minor bugs: If you select a material other than Stone in the Fill Type menu, you can no longer empty your shovel and have to reset it. In addition, the mod is not yet supposed to work without problems in multiplayer.
More practical and easier to use is still the classic construction mode, in which you can edit the terrain with a few mouse clicks. However, if you are looking for more realism and immersion, you might like the mod very much. Using a machine to actually dig up earth and fill it up again in another place feels more believable than creating terrain out of thin air with the mouse.
Where can I get the mod? You can download the terraforming mod at (Github). Click on the green field with the label Code in the upper right corner to download the ZIP file. Here you will also find a description of the functions and some notes on the mod. Please note that Terra Farm is currently still under development and may therefore still contain bugs.
What the new script might bring
But what is particularly exciting is what the modding community might make of the new script mod. If the functions of the script are expanded, dynamic ground could be brought back, as modders already wanted to include in the LS19. A similar mod is still missing in LS22, and many players would certainly be happy about such a feature. Terra Farm could lay the foundation here, since it uses the mechanics of the construction mode.
Through randomly generated heights and unevenness, a dynamic soil could be generated and simulated, at least to some extent. Your tractor could then sink into wet soil, for example, and drive more slowly.
What do you think of the new terraforming mod? Would you also like to see dynamic soil in Farming Simulator? Feel free to write us your opinion in the comments!
