Story & Setting: What is Mafia 4 about?

  • Story: The new Mafia is a prequel and takes place before the events of the series so far. We take on the role of Enzo Favara, who is taken in by the Torrisi family and has to prove himself in the dangerous world of organized crime.
  • Protagonist: Enzo is actually a miner before he gets involved in the machinations of the mafia. According to the developers, he is supposed to be a rather unusual mafia protagonist.
  • Setting: Mafia: The Old Country is set in Sicily at the beginning of the 20th century and sheds light on the origins of the Cosa Nostra, the Sicilian Mafia. This means that we will probably spend most of our time on the Mediterranean island, pursuing our dirty business in small villages rather than in a metropolis.

Gameplay: How does Mafia: The Old Country play?

Mafia: The Old Country combines linear, story-driven gameplay with the rough underworld of 1900s Sicily. In terms of gameplay, the developers at Hanger 13 want to go back to the roots of the series.

  • Open World: Explore a vibrant Sicily, a detailed backdrop of small villages, picturesque olive groves and rugged mountains.
  • Story Focus: A linear, cinematic storyline that offers a deep insight into the world of the Mafia.
  • Combat: Melee combat with blades and contemporary firearms such as sawed-off shotguns or revolvers. Combat is therefore more likely to be at close range. The trailer already shows a cover system.
  • Movement: In The Old Country, both horses and early automobiles play an important role. How horses and cars are interwoven with the fighting is not yet known.

This leaves many questions unanswered, which will probably only be answered in the coming weeks and months. For example, when exactly The Old Country is to be released. We will, of course, update this overview as soon as there is new information and insights into the game.

Now we want to hear your opinion! Are you looking forward to Mafia: The Old Country? What is your impression of the Mafia prequel so far and how do you like Sicily as a new location? Feel free to write about it in the comments.
