Surprise! We actually thought the Netflix series on Magic: The Gathering was dead. Now the project is to be realized after all with the help of a Star Trek veteran.

Actually, the Netflix series on Magic: The Gathering was considered dead and (almost) forgotten. But the streaming service apparently has enough mana to play a rebirth. Because now, quite surprisingly, there is a new sign of life for the new animation project, which was already announced in 2019 and was actually supposed to be released in 2022.

The Magic series returns from the cemetery

Just last week, former Superman actor Brandon Routh commented on the Magic series: the voice actor for Planeswalker Gideon Jura assumed that the project had died a quiet death.

But now, in the wake of Netflix Geeked Week, comes the big surprise that the series about Magic: The Gathering is to come after all. Terry Matalas, who is responsible for this as showrunner, has worked as a producer and screenwriter on TV series such as Star Trek: Picard and 12 Monkeys.

Matalas is following in the footsteps of two previous teams: First, Joe and Anthony Russo (Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame) were to adapt the world-famous trading card game for Netflix, followed by Jeff Kline (Transformers: Prime), (Star Wars: Rebels) and Audu Paden (Monster High).

It remains to be seen when the Magic series will finally start on Netflix.A trailer or specific image material is also a long time coming. There is only a new teaser image that possibly shows the Planeswalkers Ajani Goldmähne and Chandra Nalaar.

In any case, Netflix has released a whole bunch of information about new productions in the course of Geeked Week 2024. For example, about One Piece, Arcane or Squid Game. You can read more about this under the links above.
