Publisher Team17 has announced a new multiplayer shooter that is set to launch in Early Access later this year. We have all the info on gameplay, setting and release.
“Space. Infinite expanses. The year is 1990. These are – damn pirates!”. That, or something like it, could be the introduction to the freshly announced hardcore shooter Marauders. In it, dirty diesel punk meets sci-fi and Tarkov elements mix with spaceship battles. Sounds exciting? We’ve got all the known info for you!
What kind of game is Marauders?
The setting: In this alternative timeline, the First World War never ended. Because the Earth has been completely exploited in the meantime, humanity has ventured into space by necessity – but there are numerous conflicts there as well. You are a marauder, i.e. a pirate, who searches for valuable booty and uses it to build more powerful weapons and equipment. The game is set in the alternative 1990s, but without bright colours and dungarees, instead with a gloomy diesel punk aesthetic.
Gameplay: Let’s first check off the buzzwords: hardcore shooter, multiplayer, first-person perspective, crafting and tactical battles. In Marauders you fight your way through the dark world, either alone or in squads of up to four players. Your goal: to collect better equipment on dangerous raids, to heat up the enemies and then to escape alive. What pirates do in space – the space rum is guaranteed afterwards.
This is all a bit reminiscent of Escape from Tarkov, which is being copied more often at the moment. For example, from The Cycle:

The spaceships: In Marauders, you not only upgrade your tactical combat equipment, but also your own spaceship. You can also build it yourself from captured resources, equip it with more powerful weapons and use it to hunt for more loot. According to the official description, you can even conquer other players’ ships and steal them – which should also work the other way round, of course, so always pay attention! When and where does Marauders appear?
The shooter will soon be launched in Early Access on Steam – in 2022. Owners of the PC Game Pass will also be able to get started then, as a preview version will also appear in the Microsoft subscription service. This means that the finished game should also go directly into the library when it is released.
By the way, a playable demo is to be released soon: According to Team17, this is planned for the gaming event W.A.S.D. in London, which runs from 7 to 9 April 2022.
A final release date for Marauders is not yet known, but is likely to be in late 2023 or early 2024 at the earliest.
