Update 20241210 mainly addresses the first major issues of Marvel Rivals. Here are the complete patch notes.

Marvel Rivals is currently going through the roof; just under half a million players are on the servers at the same time via Steam. And it has to be said: compared to the competition, the launch is going surprisingly smoothly.

There are no missing planes, the servers are smooth, people can play. But Marvel Rivals is not completely free of problems either – especially the performance is a bit of a problem for a lot of people, and people are complaining about regular crashes in the Steam comments.

By the way, we can confirm that – for us too, Marvel Rivals often crashes just when things are going well. Grr. But at least the new patch 20241210 makes sure that this crash is a bit smoother. Let’s take a look.

The most important fixes of patch 20241210

The latest patch should be installed soon, according to the official blog post, and it mainly takes care of the first bugs and glitches. You can find the complete patch notes on page 2, but the highlights are here:

  • Smoother crashes: Until now, the game tended to freeze for ages when it crashed. This is especially annoying when you actually want to rejoin the match in progress and every second counts. From now on, the crash will take you directly back to the desktop. At least.

  • Fewer crashes: Some crash causes that were not defined in more detail have also been fixed.
  • Correct progress: Your mission progress in the dailies, weeklies and event challenges should now be displayed correctly in the menus.

In addition, the patch fixes various major and minor collision and display issues, such as incorrect costumes, clipping errors and so on. Since the rounds in Marvel Rivals run pretty smoothly, this should help to cushion the most important annoyances of the community. At the same time, the devs emphasize that they will, of course, continue to eliminate problems. We’ll keep you posted.

The complete patch notes for update 20241210

We have found that some spots on the edge of the new map cause characters to get stuck. We have looked at the entire map and done our best to fix this bug. However, further adjustments may be needed to completely fix the problem. We appreciate your patience as we continue to investigate and work on a solution to prevent it from reoccurring.

· Changing the location for saving highlights would cause the game to crash. This issue has been fixed.

Fixed some relatively common crash issues.

Maps and Game Modes

· On certain maps (notably Hydra Charteris Base: Hell’s Heaven and Klyntar: Symbiotic Surface), special collisions at the edges would cause the player character to get stuck or pass through the edges into strange areas. These issues have been largely resolved, but because this affects multiple maps and areas, this bug can also occur elsewhere. We will work to continue to fix such issues and develop a solution to prevent them entirely.

· In the foggy areas of “Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda: Hall of Djalia” and “Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda: Birnin T’Challa:
– The fog disappeared from Hela and Storm’s perspective when they activated their Ultimates. This problem has been fixed.
– After Jeff the Landshark was resurrected in the fog, his teammates and enemies could not see the special effects of “Joyful Splash”. This problem has been fixed.

· In Hydra Charteris Base: Hells Heaven – Frozen Airfield:
– In Competitive, the lighting behaved abnormally when a player was incapacitated near a target area. This problem has been fixed.
During a match, disconnecting and reconnecting to the game could cause some doors to desync (i.e. a door appeared to be closed but the player could walk through it; a door appeared to be open but the player could not walk through it). This issue has been fixed.

· Hydra Charteris Base: Hells Heaven – Eldritch Monument:
– When the objective area ascends or descends and Adam Warlock uses his ultimate ability, his teammates may be resurrected and stuck below ground level if they are directly on the objective area platform. This problem has been fixed.
When the target area ascends or descends, if Thor or Loki have been resurrected by Hela’s team ability, they may be resurrected and stuck under the terrain if they are directly on the target platform. This issue has been fixed.
– When the objective area is rising or falling and Jeff the Landshark uses his ultimate to devour characters, they can potentially get stuck under the terrain if they are directly on the objective area’s platform. This problem has been fixed.
– When the objective area is rising or falling and Winter Soldier hits an enemy with his ultimate and they land directly on the objective area’s platform, damage can be lost. This issue has been fixed.

· When transitioning between rounds in Competitive, the effective range of the vehicle was not displayed when it was approaching the objective, and this affected the determination of the effective crew range when the objective was not the final stage of a map. This issue has been fixed.
When entering the third round in Competitive Convoy or Convergence, Heroes had the option to carry over their Ultimate energy from the second round. This has been fixed, and Heroes can no longer carry over their Ultimate energy.

Heroes

· When Wolverine donned his Deadpool and Wolverine Costume, skill audio other than the Immortal Beast skill did not play. This has been fixed.
· After Star-Lord’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 MVP animation played, no sound effects played in the results screen. This has been fixed.
When Iron Fist used Pings, the corresponding voice lines were not triggered. This has been fixed.
The description for ADS Sensitivity in Black Widow’s settings was incorrect. This has been fixed.
In certain situations, Black Widow’s ultimate energy was not restored as intended. This has been fixed.
In certain extreme situations, Captain America’s ultimate did not end as intended. This has been fixed.
When Doctor Strange’s portals triggered terrain KO’s, they were incorrectly restoring Doctor Strange’s ultimate energy. To temporarily fix this issue, we have disabled the portals’ terrain KO mapping (i.e. terrain KO’s do not count towards Doctor Strange’s own KO’s). Rest assured that this bug will be fixed in a future update. At that time, we will restore the knockout mapping of the portals.

PC

· Using FSR 3 frame generation technology to change the resolution could cause memory leaks, resulting in blurred models. This issue has been addressed.

· After equipping the Scarlet Spider costume from the PlayStation pack, the costume was not displayed correctly when restarting the game. This problem has been fixed.
