Director Matt Shakman (WandaVision, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters) is bringing The Fantastic Four to cinemas on May 2, 2025 – swapping the release date with Thunderbolts . And yes, you read that right: The new superhero film comes with a The
before Fantastic Four
therefore.
This sets the MCU reboot at least a little apart from the previous theatrical versions: Roger Corman’s never-released 1994 film, Tim Story’s 2005 and 2007 two-parter, and director Josh Trank’s big-screen flop.
What else you should know about The Fantastic Four
The Fantastic Four dares to try something new with its setting for the Marvel Cinematic Universe: The film takes place in the 1960s, in 1963 to be precise. In addition, the little robot Herbie finally makes his big screen debut – as the official artwork for the film shows
In addition, the basic premise of The Fantastic Four is based a little more on the comic book: Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben start the film as astronauts and do not gain their superpowers as scientists. The dynamics of the four heroes should also be the focus, The Fantastic Four is described as a family film.
