Angels Fall First has been in Early Access for ten years. The full release has now been announced with a surprising update
Indie developer Strangely Interactive has been working on the ambitious genre mix Angels Fall First for almost ten years now. The game has been in Early Access on Steam since 2015, but there has been radio silence for the last two years and the game was considered abandoned. However, the developers are back with an update and are promising the end of the test phase soon
Angels Fall First announces the end of Early Access
The last update for the shooter was released in June 2022 The game was considered dead even among loyal fans and according to SteamDB rarely had more than ten players.
However, a few days ago the developers released update 29 and the game got a new map, controller support, Steam achievements and numerous adjustments and improvements to gameplay and performance.
In addition, the studio announced that will leave Early Access with the next update . A date is not yet known
Why the long break? Strangely Interactive remains vague and only explains that many of the team did not have enough time for the project in “these turbulent times”. However, they confirm that they want to finish the game
What kind of game is Angels Fall First?
Angels Fall First is something like an ambitious Battlefront. The multiplayer battles are designed for 64 players but it can also be played with bots.
The battles take place in space, but also on the surface of various planets as well. Huge carrier ships commanded by players clash in space, while others throw themselves into dogfights with bombers and fighters.
Larger ships can also be boarded, however, and the whole game alternates between shooter battles, with weapon at the ready, and ship-to-ship battles.
Fighting also takes place on the ground, both as infantry and with various vehicles. A Commander leads the battles more like in a strategy game and issues orders to the squads.
You see, Angels Fall First combines a whole lot of features and – as we already stated in 2015 in our conclusion linked above – is even able to make something of it. The game has an 81 percent positive rating on Steam, but there is still a lack of players after the long break. We’ve also linked a column above in which editor Tillmann explains why he thinks Enshrouded sets the tone for what Early Access should look like in the future.
