For fans of online role-playing games, 2025 will once again have plenty to offer. We’ve taken a look at which games you should keep an eye on.

It can take many years between the announcement of a new MMO and its actual release – and, as genre veterans know, there can also be delays and reorientations. In addition, there is the now frequently used practice of testing MMOs in an extended early access phase.

Nevertheless, we have selected a few games for you that you should have on your radar for 2025.

  • Ashes of Creation
  • Aion 2
  • Chrono: Odyssey
  • Corepunk
  • Dune: Awakening
  • Soulframe
  • WoW: Midnight

Ashes of Creation

(Platform: PC – Developer: Intrepid Studios- Release: Possibly 2025 (currently playable in Alpha)

Our first candidate is one of the MMOs that are currently already playable in an alpha. However, the keys for this cost $120 and entitle you to participate in all upcoming tests.

Ashes of Creation is a mix between a sandbox and a theme park with currently nine races and eight classes, which can be combined into 64 subclasses. A special feature are the nodes, which players can develop from a village to a large city by completing a wide range of tasks.

Aion 2

(Platform: PC – Developer: NCsoft – Release: Second half of 2025)

Those who prefer to go on quests and take on bosses in MMOs rather than fight against other players might find what they are looking for in Aion 2. The game will largely focus on PvE content. There will also be PvP battles with other players, but these will only play a minor role.

As in the prequel, you can take to the skies with your own wings and this feature is set to be even more important in the second part.

Chrono: Odyssey

(Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X & S – Developer: Chrono Studio – Release: Planned for 2025)

The action-oriented MMO Chrono Odyssey has a rather dark fantasy setting and aims to bring a little Dark Souls into the genre. You don’t just have to attack in combat, you also have to dodge and parry. You can choose from six classes: Paladin, Swordsman, Berserker, Assassin, Ranger, and Sorceress

A special feature is the eponymous Chronotector, which allows you to make short time jumps and is a central element of the story.

Corepunk

(Platform: PC – Developer: Artificial Core – Release: Planned for 2025 (In Early Access since November 26, 2024)

The most striking feature of Corepunk is the isometric perspective. The top-down MMO has six classes with 18 specializations. There is a crafting system, as well as dungeons, raids, and world bosses for PvE players. For PvP players, arenas and battlefields are offered.

Participation in Early Access is only possible via the official website Keys start at 33 euros.

Dune: Awakening

(Platform: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X & S – Developer: Funcom – Release: 1st quarter 2025)

The sci-fi MMO relies on survival mechanics to match the surreal desert planet of Arrakis. In addition to the risk of dehydration, sandworms are also out to get you.

Building your own bases also plays a major role, and there are special air and ground vehicles that you can equip with modules for invention, combat or resource extraction.

You can already register for the Dune: Awakening beta on the official website.

Soulframe

(Platform: PC – Developer: Digital Extremes – Release: Planned for 2025)

If the name of the fantasy MMO and the developer reminds you of a well-known loot shooter, you are not mistaken. The game comes from the Warframe creators, but swaps guns for swords.

The battles are fought with blades, and good timing and skillful dodging are necessary. To keep your distance, you can use a bow or even throw your shield at your opponents.

You can already sign up for a beta, and Soulframe is supposed to have a Free2Play model.

WoW: Midnight

(Platform: PC – Developer: Blizzard – Release: Unknown (but Reveal is planned for 2025))

What would such a list be without World of Warcraft? A new expansion is very unlikely to be released next year, even though Blizzard is breaking new ground by announcing the three-part World Soul saga.

Nevertheless, MMO fans are looking forward to 2025, because Blizzard announced that it would present the new expansion in late summer and perhaps also the feature that fans have been wanting for years: housing.

What about…

Online role-playing games are currently in production at some major brands, without too many details being known so far. These include:

  • The Lord of the Rings MMO, which is currently being developed by Amazon Games. So far, it is known that the setting and story are based on the movies. The game is still in the early stages of development, but maybe we’ll have some concrete information in 2025.
  • After League of Legends was able to leave its footprint in the animation series with Arcane, it is now set to do the same in the MMO genre. As things stand now, however, the game is still searching for its identity, but maybe Riot Games will find it in 2025.
  • After a long search, the successor to ArcheAge has finally found its identity. ArcheAge Chronicles, as it is called, is scheduled to be released in 2026, according to a financial report by publisher Kakao Games. Fans may be able to expect a test phase in the coming year.

Of course, numerous other MMO games will also be launched in alpha, beta, early access or full release in 2025. If you have any tips for games that fans of online role-playing games should have on their radar next year, feel free to post them in the comments or tell us which game you are most looking forward to.
