With the Project Cyrodiil mod, you can venture into the Imperial province of Morrowind for the first time.
Morrowind only came in third in our previous poll for the best Elder Scrolls game, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a lot of fans. Fans like the modding team from Project Tamriel, who recently celebrated the release of their latest mega-project.
What is Project Cyrodiil: Abecean Shores?
The Morrowind mod expands the base game with a new area. And as you, as Elder Scrolls experts, probably already recognize from the name, it goes west to the imperial province. The kingdom of Anvil rules there, with the port city of the same name as its center.
The whole area is about half the size of Vvardenfell and, in addition to the harbor, also offers a jungle, a coast and underwater areas. You can get a first glimpse of the project in the trailer:
Of course, you can not only admire and explore the beautiful areas, but also talk to the locals, complete quests and beat up monsters. In addition to the countless smaller quests, the mod team has also worked on faction tasks.
Here you will of course meet old acquaintances such as the thieves’ guild or the mages’ guild, but you will also make new acquaintances. For example, with the wandering priests. In total, there should be over 160 new quests.
This is how you install the mod
You need this to install the mod:
- The latest version of Morrowind (v 1.6820), including Tribunal and Bloodmoon
- Tamriel_Data v11.0 or higher (get the mod)
- The Morrowind Code Patch (get the mod)
It is also recommended that you download and install the other two major mod projects by the team so that you can also play the quests that take place between the mod provinces.
The installation of the mod is quite simple. To do that, you simply have to unzip the contents of the 00 Core
folder of the mod and move it into the Data Files
folder of your Morrowind directory. If you are asked whether the folders of the same name should be integrated into each other, click Yes
Now you just have to go to the Morrowind launcher and make sure that the two options Tamriel_Data.esm
and Cyr_Main.esm
are checked.
And that’s it. Now you can start Morrowind and either travel to the new area by boat (to do so, talk to Titus Corilex in Ebonheart Harbor) or by immersive quest. You can find these either in the Foreign Quarter of Vivec City, the College of Firewatch, or in the west of Dragonstar City.
What is planned for 2025 and beyond
The ambitious team around Project Tamriel has already delivered a lot of content with the first release, but is far from finished with the mod. Currently, the team is working on an expansion to the Kingdom of Sutch and the Colovian Highlands. Later, it will then go further inland.
All information about the current development status and contact with the modders can be found on their official homepage. The collective is currently working on a total of four provinces for Morrowind: Cyrodiil, Skyrim, High Rock and Hammerfell.
What do you think of the mod? Will you try it and are you already familiar with the other projects from Project Tamriel? And do mods like this encourage you to reinstall and experience a game that is over 20 years old? Let us know in the comments.
