Remember the “Super Smash Bros with DC characters”? It was discontinued after a short time, but should return soon

MultiVersus has had a very strange year and a half. The fighting game with DC heroes, Bugs Bunny and co. was released in July 2022 and immediately became a hit with over 20 million downloads – the Free2Play alternative to Super Smash Bros inspired numerous players.

But then the servers were shut down in March 2023 because, according to the developer studio, it was only an open beta. However, the community was unaware of this and was left holding the bag for their real money purchases.

At some point in early 2024, it was said – and according to a McDonald’s campaign, the re-release could take place soon.

The latest rumors about the relaunch

The fast food chain has the rumor mill buzzing: A Happy Meal with MultiVersus collaboration has been officially announced in Australia. Among others, journalist Edmond Tran shares this on X (formerly Twitter):

An exact start date for the campaign is not known, the website only states a vague “Coming soon”. Nevertheless, it is a pretty clear indication: the fact that MultiVersus is set to return has been officially confirmed. And the “early 2024” period is slowly coming to an end – so it would come as no surprise if the relaunch takes place in the coming weeks

No new characters are visible, so for now there is no information on whether and how the final version will differ from the open beta. We’ll keep you up to date, of course!
