The “Game of Thrones” author is happy about the success of the game and finds words of praise for the dedication of the developers.

The renowned author of “The Song of Ice and Fire”, George R.R. Martin, comments on (his blog) the extremely positive response that the just released Elden Ring received from the trade press and many players.

He was involved in the development process early on and helped create the myths and backstory of the world years ago. Not restricting him creatively was one of the main reasons the title was not christened Dark Souls 4 and set in its universe.

The fact that this calculation worked out despite some initial difficulties can be seen above all in the extremely high Steam player numbers, which have remained constant at around 800,000 since the release on 25 February 2022.

If you are still unsure whether the exceptional title is something for your gaming taste, our detailed test video will inform you about all the strengths and weaknesses of the game:

Music to my ears

Martin could seemingly barely hide his delight at the game’s success when he made the release of Elden Ring the subject of a blog post on the last day of February, writing that the title was just taking the gaming world by storm. Since he was involved in the project, however, one should not rely on his word alone, so the fantasy author then referred to a selection of English reviews.

Of other opinions, he quotes only the catchphrases and calls them “music to my ears”:

Unique…. a masterpiece… beautiful and brutal… With a magnificent open world“….

It must have been an unusual experience for the creator of one of the most important contemporary fantasy epics to have the publication of one of his stories depend on someone other than himself. After all, “Game of Thrones” fans have been waiting in vain for the last two volumes of the saga for over a decade.

While the author struggles with his writer’s block, we’ll make sure you don’t get bogged down playing Elden Ring with comprehensive guides:

Praise the developers

Finally, Martin is modest: Although the world is fundamentally based on his groundwork, most of the credit goes to Hidetaka Miyazaki [editor’s note: game director at From Software] and his talented game designers, who have been working on the title for more than five years.

They had the ambition to create the best video game ever and it was an honour to have met and worked with them on the fantastic world of the game milestone.

Incidentally, he went into detail about the exact scope of his collaboration in a (Interview) in the middle of last year and made it clear that the developers wanted him to create a new, as detailed as possible world, including characters, in which they could then embed the game. He had already delivered this to them many years ago. After that, they only sent him some monster designs from time to time with a request for feedback.
