Almost 20 years ago, the popular game Need for Speed: Underground 2 was released. A YouTuber is now tinkering with a remake on the Unreal Engine 4.
The YouTube channel “2Unreal4Underground” tries to bring the popular classic Need for Speed: Underground 2 into the present day. The first videos of the fan remake can already be seen.
Over 19 years ago Need for Speed: Underground 2 was released, but back then the Unreal Engine 4 didn’t exist. However, developer Ivan Novozhilov from the channel “2Unreal4Underground” took it upon himself to give the popular racing game the look of this engine. As a result, the track, resolution, lighting and cars have been graphically improved and translated into modern times. The YouTuber has also given the game a weather cycle.
However, Novozhilov has not only given the classic a graphical boost, but has also made some changes to the gameplay. The steering was completely reworked in the fan remake and the automatic transmission and clutch were optimised. The modder works on several parts of Need for Speed: Underground 2 and tries to improve them in his remake.
Novozhilov couldn’t keep his hands off the sound either. His fan project features the music from Underground 1, Underground 2 and Most Wanted. The community is enthusiastic about the fan remake. In the comments under the YouTube video, some hope that the modder will be able to complete the project without EA putting a stop to it.
