That was quick! Due to low player numbers, Concord will soon be removed from all stores. But Sony is probably not giving up on the title quite yet

Sony has commented on the future of the multiplayer shooterConcordin a new statement on itsown blog. The game developer opens with the words:

Your support and the passionate community that has formed around the game mean a lot to us.

Despite this, the game is being shut down. How does that fit together? We explain what’s behind Sony’s decision and why there’s still a consolation for the fans.

On Steam, the air is already out after two weeks

Let’s make a long story short: Concord’s player numbers on PlayStation look anything but rosy. This is hardly surprising, as Sony is certainly not making this decision lightly. We do not have exact figures, as the Japanese company does not offer an interface for data retrieval here.

The situation is different for Steam on the PC.And the figures are foreboding catastrophes: At the time of this writing, according to SteamDBonly a whopping 39 playersare chasing each other across the maps in the multiplayer shooter. In the past few hours, there were 132 players worldwide (!) and the all-time high was reached on August 23, 2024, i.e. on the day of release: 697 players, ouch …

The Steam reviews aren’t great either Fun fact: With 805 reviewsConcord has more reviews than players on Steam. Only 68 percent of the reviews are positive, with frequent crashes and boring maps and game modes being the main criticisms

Could Concord return?

So it’s no wonder that Sony is pulling the ripcord after just two weeks. But we still have one consolation for the 39 Steam users: the chances are not too bad that we will see Concord again in some form or other

Sony writes in the blog post that theyare looking into options to better reach our players That sounds like we may not have heard the last of Concord. Of course, at the end of this review, Sony may well decide to bury the game altogether

The full Sony statement on Concord’s demise reads as follows:

Concord fans – since the release of Concord on PlayStation 5 and PC, we have been listening closely to your feedback and would like to thank everyone who has embarked on the journey aboard the Northstar. Your support and the passionate community that has formed around the game mean a lot to us.

Although many qualities of the game have been well received by players, we are aware that other aspects of the game and launch have not been as well received as we had envisioned. Therefore, we have decided to take the game offline from September 6, 2024 and explore options to better reach our players

While we consider how best to proceed, sales of Concord will cease immediately and we will offer a full refund to all players who purchased the game for PS5 or PC. If you purchased the game for PlayStation 5 via PlayStation Store or PlayStation Direct, the refund will be credited back to your original payment method

Have you purchased Concord? Sony writes that you will receive a refundon both Steam and the Epic Store. You should receive an email shortly to initiate the process. At least you won’t suffer any financial loss at the end of the two-week journey

The situation is a little more complicated for buyers of the physical version. They have to contact the retailer to find out what the refund policy is
