A long-forgotten game series is back with Delta Force: Hawk Ops and could become a realistic competitor to Battlefield.

After years of silence, there is finally news about one of the oldest first-person shooter games in the world. With the first trailer for Delta Force Hawk Ops, a game series that has almost been forgotten is making a comeback and could pose serious competition for both Call of Duty and Battlefield.

The dead live longer

The legendary tactical shooter Delta Force has been quiet for a long time. The last sign of life for the game series came in 2009 with Delta Force: Xtreme 2, which focused mainly on multiplayer mode, but despite a large selection of maps, modes and weapons, it was rather poor

Since then, there has been no news about the popular shooter series from developer NovaLogic and many understandably thought that the franchise was at an end.

With the trailer for Delta Force: Hawk Ops, the game series acquired by THQ Nordic in 2016 has now returned and is more reminiscent of a Battlefield or Call of Duty than the classic Delta Force games.

The latest installment in the series is set to be a free2play multiplayer shooter developed by the Chinese studio TiMi, which belongs to Tencent Games (Riot Games). In contrast to classic Delta Force titles, however, the developers have opted for a slightly different approach in Hawk Ops.

On the partly destructible maps, we can compete against each other in tanks, helicopters and all kinds of other vehicles in four different classes. In addition to the obligatory soldier class (Assault), we can also opt for the sniper (Sniper), engineer (Engineer) or medic (Medic)

Delta Force: Hawk Ops could have a realistic chance of overtaking Battlefield. It is well known that the brand, which belongs to Electronic Arts, has been in extremely difficult waters since the disastrous release of Battlefield 2042 and is trying to attract new players by introducing a battle royale mode

There is no release date yet, but if you want to stay up to date, you can register at (playdeltaforce.com) to make sure you don’t miss anything. The website also offers a first look at the vehicles and different classes.

Delta Force: Hawk Ops is set to be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, Android, iOS and PC.

History lesson

The military shooter series Delta Force, now 26 years old, is undoubtedly one of the oldest brands in computer game history and has thrilled players for generations.

The first release was back in 1998 and, together with a few other games, established the tactical shooter genre on the PC in the first place.

While most previous first-person shooters such as Quake, Unreal or Doom relied on relatively simple action, players in Delta Force had to be much more tactical and adapt their strategy to the mission at hand.

By 2009, a total of nine Delta Force games had been released, some of which were more successful than others. After the rather poorly rated Delta Force: Xtreme 2 from 2009, many assumed that this would be the final nail in the coffin for a dying brand.

With Delta Force: Hawk Ops, the series is now back, it remains to be hoped that the resurrection will succeed with the new concept and that the game will actually be a worthy competitor for the Battlefield series.
