The creative director of Moon Studios takes a swipe at Diablo 4 and wants to do things differently with his own action role-playing game
The Austrian developer Moon Studios, known for the two popular Metroidvanias in the Ori series, has a new action role-playing game in development with No Rest for the Wicked
In contrast to competitors such as Diablo 4, the aim is to do without microtransactions and the like. CEO and Creative Director Thomas Mahler announced this rather less diplomatically on social media.
No Rest for the Wicked: Creative Director fires back against Diablo 4
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Mahler makes it clear: The game from Moon Studios wants to completely do without microtransactions
We’re launching into Early Access on April 18th.
We invite everyone to become part of our journey so that we get data that allows us to bit by bit perfect Wicked.
No Microtransactions and Battle Passes for sale. No 65$ Horse Skins. No Stash Tabs for sale either. If you wanna…

He also explains that there will be no mounts in the Moon Studios game. In a further post it says:
There are horses in our world, but you won’t be able to ride one because clever level design is a higher priority than selling mounts.
This is most likely another jab at Blizzard. You can check out the level design and everything else in the action role-playing game from April 18 in Early Access on Steam. Following the test phase, a release for PS5 and Xbox Series X & S is also planned.
Accusations about the working atmosphere at Moon Studios
A report by the website Venture Beat from 2021 accused the development studio of toxic statements by studio founders Thomas Mahler and Gennadiy Korol. The sources of the research criticized the harsh, unprofessional tone and inappropriate jokes of the studio bosses. Mahler and Korol denied the allegations in a statement to Venture Beat in 2021 and declined to comment when asked by GlobalESportNews
For fans of action role-playing games, there was recently a new interesting candidate in Last Epoch. In addition, Path of Exile 2 is another potential high-caliber game still to come.
