But that’s not the only possibility: We’ve known since before release that sooner or later a third enemy faction will appear, which some players already claim to have spotted on the battlefields.
The Illuminates known from the predecessor are a highly developed species that has existed for hundreds of thousands of years and will sooner or later intervene in the battle for Super Earth.
It remains to be seen if and when exactly the machines will return or the aliens will intervene in the conflict. Just like in the first Helldivers, the sequel works like an endless cycle of epic victories and devastating defeats.
In the first Helldivers, the galactic war campaigns lasted only one month each, in the sequel the first season now runs for exactly two months – and there seems to be no end in sight as long as there are still bug planets that want to be liberated by you.
