Sony presents new faceplates for the PS5 Slim – one of them is at least vaguely reminiscent of the classic PS One
The Playstation 5 has been available in a new revision since the end of November 2023: The console model, widely referred to as “PS5 Slim”, features a slimmer and, above all, lighter design, which Sony officially lists under the CFI-2000 series.
If you have purchased such a PS5 Slim, you will generally receive it in the standard white version; only specific bundles with games are offered in a different look.
At the current CES 2024, Sony has now unveiled new faceplates that give your console a different look if you wish, as (The Verge) reported.
The three new covers for the PS5 Slim are the following colors:
- Cobalt Blue
- Volcanic Red
- Sterling Silver
The latter edition in particular could make some people’s eyes light up, as the color is at least somewhat reminiscent of the look of the original PS One.

The new faceplates of the PS5 Slim are presented with a “metallic finish”, as Sony writes on the official website . This contrasts with the regular version, which has a combination of a glossy and matt finish.
Both the Volcanic Red and Cobalt Blue faceplates are already available in the Playstation Direct Store – only the silver console cover has to be pre-ordered. Sony is targeting January 26, 2024 as the date. Regardless of whether you buy the faceplate for the Digital or Disc Edition of the PS5 Slim, a price of 60 euros is due here
The new covers are only intended for the Slim version of the Playstation 5; if you still have one of the original consoles (revision CFI-1000 or CFI-1200), you cannot use the new faceplates.
At least Sony promises “foolproof handling” for the PS5 Slim when it comes to changing your cover. The complete instructions for replacing the faceplate can be found on the respective store page
