The online role-playing game Pax Dei will offer a sandbox experience in which you can try out many different play styles. We introduce the title.

Fantasy MMOs already exist in large numbers, but the independent developer studio Mainframe Industries still wants to publish a first work in this genre with Pax Dei . Now, in addition to the title of the game, there is already a first trailer, screenshots and some information about the ideas of the developers, some of which comes from a (report from the website MMORPG) . We briefly introduce the title to you.

That”s how Pax Dei

Pax Dei is to be an open-world sandbox that focuses on the greatest possible freedom for players. The developers aim to let you set your own goals, interact with others and find your own play style. Thanks to Unreal Engine 5, the game looks pretty fancy on first pictures. But what is it all about?

Setting and story

As you can guess from the trailer, you can expect a fantasy world inspired by the legends of the Middle Ages where there will be not only knights and bandits, but also magic, ghosts and monsters

While it is quite peaceful around the starting area, the world is said to become more and more dangerous and strange the further you move away from the safe Heartlands. In the dangerous outer areas you will also find the best loot. But it”s best to take a look at the trailer for yourself:

What the story of Pax Dei could be about, and whether there is an overarching story at all, remains completely open so far. Apparently, however, religion is supposed to play a certain role.

A world created by players

In Pax Dei, you can choose to explore the world alone or with other players, or found a village together. To do this, you secure a piece of land and build entire towns using a modular system. There are no NPC villages, the world is to be shaped exclusively by the hands of each individual player.

Different alliances, villages and towns can also exchange rare resources through trade, or even wage war with each other. However, you will not be forced to PvP, this is only an option if both parties decide to do so.

Huge proportions

When we say that Pax Dei has big plans, we mean it literally. You will romp around in a world of about 100 square kilometres, which you will share with up to 20,000 players per server  It is not supposed to be empty, but filled with interesting places and secrets.

(There should be a lot to discover in the world of Pax Dei.)

Playable everywhere

Pax Dei was designed from the ground up to be playable via cloud streaming on devices of all kinds. You should not only be able to explore the world from a powerful gaming PC, but also via laptop, smartphone or tablet.

This means above all that suitable control schemes for mobile devices are being considered in the development. But work is also being done to prevent latency problems when playing via the cloud.

How well Pax Dei will ultimately play on the various platforms remains to be seen on the – as yet unknown – release date. But until then you can already apply (for a closed alpha phase) if you want to try out the game.

How do you like the first impression of Pax Dei? Do you think the concept of a player-driven world can work? Or are you rather sceptical, because the young studio has taken on a lot? Let us know in the comments!
