Only the RTX 4080 Super is missing from Nvidia’s new Super portfolio, but tests are now coming a day later than expected

The new Nvidia graphics cards RTX 4070 Super and RTX 4070 Ti Super will be followed by the release of the RTX 4080 Super on January 31. However, for logistical reasons, tests of the graphics card will not appear tomorrow, January 30, as originally expected, but one day later.

What is the reason for the postponement?  According to Nvidia, the temporary extreme weather conditions in the USA have caused delays in the delivery process.

Our test model of the RTX 4080 Super will also only reach us later today, i.e. about 24 hours before the originally planned end of the test embargo on January 30 at 3 pm. To give reviewers more time, Nvidia has now decided to postpone the embargo date

For comparison: The samples of the RTX 4070 Super and the RTX 4070 Ti Super were each with us about a week before the NDA fell and thus significantly earlier.

What can we expect from the RTX 4080 Super?

In terms of technical data, the RTX 4080 Super is the most unspectacular of the three new super upgrades for the RTX 4000 series. The number of computing units has only increased by around five percent and little else has changed, as the following table shows:

  RTX 4080 Super RTX 4080
Shader units 10.240 9.728
maximum cycle 2.550 MHz 2.505 MHz
Memory 16 GByte GDDR6X 16 GByte GDDR6X
Memory bandwidth 736 GByte/s 716 GByte/s
L2-Cache 64 MByte 64 MByte
TDP 320 Watt 320 Watt
Theoretical computing power (FP32) 52.2 TFLOPS 48.7 TFLOPS

For comparison: In the case of the RTX 4070 Super, the computing units have increased by around 21 percent compared to the non-Super model and the cache has also been enlarged. With the RTX 4070 Ti Super, the increase is ten percent and there is also more VRAM (16 GB instead of 12 GB).

The decisive change compared to the RTX 4080, which is being replaced by the RTX 4080 Super, is the price. The Founders Edition of the RTX 4080 is currently still being offered by Nvidia for €1,329, while the RRP of the RTX 4080 Super is a much lower €1,109.

The RTX 4080 is available in stores from around €1,150 to €1,200. It will be interesting to see exactly where the RTX 4080 Super will settle at.
