Steam and Epic are full of big and exciting releases this week. One build game, however, is likely to disappoint many gamers at first

As every Monday, we show you the most important new releases on Steam again this week. Among the releases of the week this time is also a construction game, for which thousands of you have been waiting – however, anticipation may quickly turn into anger for many.

Highlight of the week: Cities: Skylines 2

(Genre: Building Game – Developer: Colossal Order – Release: October 24, 2023 (Steam))

Actually, Cities: Skylines 2 has the potential to be the best building game of the year – despite strong competition in the form of Manor Lords, which is also scheduled for release before the end of the year. Although not all DLCs of the predecessor are included at launch, the base game is much more extensive and delivers heaps of improvements – you can read more about that in our (Test)

review.

However, Cities 2 suffers from extreme technical and performance problems. The game does not run smoothly even on high-end computers with an Nvidia RTX 4090.

Now it”s up to the developers to identify and fix the causes as soon as possible – but whether that will work until the release on Tuesday is questionable – after all, there was already a warning even from Colossal Order that the build-up game will not run smoothly.

More releases of the week

Monday, October 23

  • (Slay the Princess): A psychological horror game with a suspenseful premise. You are sent to a lonely forest cabin where a princess is waiting for you to kill – if you don”t, the world will end. But the princess will try anything to stop you. Was supposed to be released last Friday.
  • (Dungeon Full Dive (Early Access)): More of a tool than a game, this is where pen-and-paper groups can bring their DnD adventures to life with virtual miniatures.

Tuesday, October 24

    • (Dark Envoy): In this CRPG, you control a group of relic hunters through a steampunk world and, of course, experience heaps of tactical combat.
    • (Ripout (Early Access)): In this sci-fi shooter you fight alone or with friends through a space station overrun by aliens and mutants.
    • (Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1): The first three 3D games of the Metal Gear series are now available as a bundle with some improvements – among other things, you can now pause the very long cutscenes.
    • (Scene Investigators): As a detective you have to solve crimes by searching crime scenes for evidence and uncovering possible motives.

    Wednesday, October 25

    • (Stray Souls): A survival horror game in which you fight your way through a haunted small town. If this sounds kind of familiar – the soundtrack is by Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka.

    Thursday, October 26

    • (Dragonheir: Silent Gods): A mix of Auto Battler and RPG, where you can also recruit DnD characters like Drizzt Do”Urden – though the Free2Play game relies on a nasty gacha mechanic.
    • (Ghostrunner 2): The direct sequel to the cyberpunk hit picks up where its predecessor left off, lets you take on the role of main character Jack again, and of course features fast-paced combat once more.

    Friday, October 27

    • (Don”t Scream (Early Access)): In this horror game powered by Unreal Engine 5, you must survive in a spooky forest for 18 minutes and not scream – or you lose.
    • (Alan Wake 2): At the end of the week, a real highlight awaits. In Alan Wake 2, you once again take on the role of the titular writer, who slowly but surely drifts into madness. In addition, a second main character is added – an FBI agent who has to solve a series of ritual murders.

What game are you most looking forward to this week? Will you give Cities 2 a chance despite technical problems? Or will you wait with the purchase and devote yourself to other games first? There are a lot of other big titles coming out this week.
