Nintendo has introduced a new Pokémon made of purple and crimson. However, it strongly reminds of the well-known Digda. Even the name is based on it.
Nintendo introduced the new Pokémon “Schligda” made of purple and crimson on Thursday. The eel-like pocket monster, however, seems to be reminiscent of a familiar Pokémon from the first generation, not only in name but also in appearance.
Although the new Pokémon resembles a Didga, Schligda is not descended from the first-generation pocket monster. At least Nintendo has announced that the eel-like monster is a completely new species. Still, the resemblance is there and even the English name Wiglett seems to be a combination of Diglett (Digda) and Wiggle (wiggle).
Meet Wiglett, the Garden Eel Pokémon!
It may look like Diglett, but it’s a completely different species of Pokémon. Wiglett pokes a part of its body out of the sand to feed in the ocean.

The new Pokémon looks like an elongated, white Digda, which is constantly wobbling in view of its name. Schligda seems to be modelled on a sea eel and lives mainly in the water. It also resembles a tubular eel, which is buried vertically in the seabed. Thus, Schligda also protrudes part of its body from the sand and searches for food in the sea. Unlike Digda, the newcomer is a purely aquatic Pokémon.
Even after more than 25 years, Pokémon enjoys great popularity among young and old. In the meantime, the initial video games have developed into a gigantic media franchise, with even top stars like Ed Sheeran taking part. According to the musician, his new song “Celestial” will be integrated into the upcoming games Pokémon Purple and Crimson.
