With Faith of Danschant: Hereafter you can get a taste of Chinese mythology. The game also looks very pretty thanks to the Unreal Engine and ray tracing. We have all the current info for you.
(Faith of Danschant: Hereafter relies on bold colours to set the scene accordingly.)
Those who initially shrug their shoulders in confusion at the title Faith of Danschant will be in good company. For the role-playing game from China, which was already released in 2017, was unable to attract much attention in the West, even though it is still available on Steam. Nevertheless, the game seems to have been successful enough for it to receive a successor.
With Faith of Danschant: Hereafter, the next part of the series will also be released here. Currently confirmed are adaptations for the PC and consoles – whether the old console generation will also be served alongside PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S has not yet been officially announced. A 12-minute gameplay trailer sets the mood for the story, battles and the beautiful game world, but see for yourself:
Martial arts fighting in Chinese mythology
What is it about? It is not yet known what the plot of the role-playing game will revolve around. The predecessor sent you to the fictional world of Nine. It was afflicted by tragedy, gods were invoked, but then stars disappeared from the sky, the bond of fate was severed – oh, you can already tell: there will be reasons why the predecessor didn’t even try to make it to the western market.
But the trailer makes one thing clear: in addition to the protagonist, his daughter also seems to play an important role. After all, the little girl can also deal out a lot with a kind of energy blast and keep enemies at bay. In the end, it will come down to saving the fantasy world in some form or another, as the trailer already suggests.
Rapid fights and boss fights: Your character will also be anything but defenceless. Those who hope for action-packed martial arts fights in view of the scenario can cheer. Indeed, the first gameplay trailer offers a good foretaste of your character’s deadly repertoire of movements. However, if things get too hairy for close physical contact, you can also reach for your sword.
The fights are fast-paced and reminiscent of common action RPGs. At the end of the trailer we also see a coherently staged boss fight against a very defensible tree lady. None of this is groundbreakingly new, but even familiar fare can taste good if the chef is a master of his craft.
Nice visuals including ray tracing
As you can see from the picture gallery above: The game world looks very beautifully designed at first glance. There are climbing passages to master and wide chasms to overcome. As befits a sword-wielding martial arts all-rounder from the Far East, your character is also familiar with all kinds of parkour moves and can run along walls.
The game world is appealing: Some of the scenery is quite visually appealing and, with the camera looking far ahead at huge trees or mountains surrounded by clouds, is reminiscent of an Asian version of God of War or Jedi: Fallen Order, which also like to use such views to create atmosphere.
The colour palette is strong and thus emphasises certain elements in the game world. By the way, the Unreal Engine is responsible for the visuals, but probably still the fourth version. And technology fans take note: Even ray tracing is on board, which is why the game is also being promoted by Nvidia as a new RTX title.
