The new Star Wars Collection was supposed to warm the nostalgic hearts of Battlefront 1 and 2 fans, but on Steam it’s backfiring badly.
If you thought Order 66 was bad, you’d better not visit the latest Steam page for the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection. Because it reveals a bigger tragedy than the production of the Star Wars sequels: what was supposed to be a great nostalgic return of two masterful classics is instead making fans pissed off. Let’s take a look at what’s going on
Why is the Star Wars: Classic Collection so slated?
The user score of the Steam reviews currently stands at extremely negative
19 percent positive reviews. In the meantime, almost 4,000 people have given their verdict, so the rating is quite statistically stable.
The biggest points of criticism can be found in almost all reviews:
- The server situation: Only three multiplayer servers were available right at launch. The problem has since been fixed, but many people are still complaining about unstable multiplayer connections. This is particularly significant because the functioning online multiplayer on the PC is the only reason to buy the collection at all (the games have been available individually on Steam for years).
- The technical state: There are also technical problems beyond the unstable servers, including graphics errors. You can see them quite well here:

- Broken voice output: The game constantly switches between German and English.
- No modding support: Battlefront has been freely customizable on the PC for years, there are myriads of content for newer Star Wars movies. The Classic Collection removes all that, you have no options to customize the version.
Steam user Grizzly is representative of many critical voices:
Unfortunately returned. It feels like there are only three to four full servers, provided you have registered the game. Otherwise you can only find servers with a ping of over 200. I definitely can’t understand the lack of cross-platform integration in 2024. What’s worse, however, is that even if you find a server with a ping of 40 or 50, the connection to the ‘host’ is regularly interrupted, despite dedicated servers. All in all, it’s unfortunately not worth the 30 euros.

Many people therefore recommend sticking to the old releases of the Battlefront games on the PC. They’re always on sale anyway, but even at full price they don’t cost 10 euros per part of the series (compared to the 35 euros for the collection)
Developer Aspyr reacts
In the meantime the devs have also commented on the technical status and are promising improvement soon:
We would like to thank our community for the great support and feedback on the release of the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection. Unfortunately, we encountered critical errors in our network infrastructure at launch. This resulted in incredibly high ping, matchmaking issues, crashes and missing servers in the server browser. We have been working on these issues and improving network stability since release and will continue to do so until the network infrastructure stabilizes. Please report your bugs, errors and unexpected issues to our support team

We will also take another detailed look at the current server conditions for our GlobalESportNews test of the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection and downgrade them if necessary.
