New Star Wars games officially found in development

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

What kind of game is Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga? If you know one Lego game, you know all Lego games – you would think. After all, all the titles by the developer TT Games actually play relatively similarly. No matter whether it’s Harry Potter, Indiana Jones or Jurassic Park. For the Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga, however, the company has set its sights on great things.

For the first time, we will not only be able to play all nine episodes of the Skywalker saga in one go, but we are also promised revised and more complex gameplay than in the predecessors. However, it remains to be seen exactly what this will look like in the end. The only downer is that fans will unfortunately have to do without the spin-offs Rogue One and Solo – and the TV series The Mandalorian.

One thing is certain: The Lego Skywalker Saga will give us the opportunity to slip into the role of up to 500 different characters from the Star Wars universe. Who hasn’t always wanted to take on the role of Sy Snoodles or Coleman Trebor and blow up Death Stars and topple Galactic Empires? No one? Alright, we were just asking …

What else is there to know? Currently, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has no concrete release date. At the beginning of April 2021, the title from the developers at TT Games was postponed indefinitely. In the meantime, it has become clear that the game will be released in spring 2022.

Knights of the Old Republic – Remake

What kind of game will the Kotor remake be? Developer Aspyr is remaking one of the best role-playing games ever with Knights of the Old Republic. After quite persistent rumours about the project for quite a long time, the remake was finally confirmed in September 2021 at Sony’s PS5 showcase.

However, it will probably be quite a while before we get to play the Kotor remake. Development was still in its infancy at the time of the unveiling. What is exciting is that Knights of the Old Republic is really being recreated from scratch. How far-reaching the changes will ultimately be cannot be said at this point.

What else is there to know
? Developer Aspyr has already gained quite a bit of experience with remakes of old Star Wars games. In the past, the studio was responsible for ports of classic Star Wars games such as Republic Commando or Jedi Knight 2. With the remake of KOTOR, the team is now venturing into a much bigger task.

Open World game from Ubisoft

What kind of game will the Division makers’ Star Wars title be? Good question, we simply don’t know. All we know at the moment is that Massive Entertainment is working on an open-world game set in the Star Wars universe. What era the title will take place in, what characters will appear and other details are still awaited. It also remains to be seen when the project will be released.

The developers of games such as Far Cry 3 or The Division 1 and 2 are reporting to Julian Gerighty (The Crew, The Division 2) for the upcoming title, for which the Snowdrop engine is to be used.

What else is there to know
? The Ubisoft game was announced on 13 January 2021. The reveal went hand in hand with the info that the Star Wars license is no longer exclusive to Electronic Arts.

Star Wars: Hunters

What kind of game will Hunters be? No release for PC and not for the NextGen consoles either: Hunters will be a multiplayer title set in the Star Wars universe, coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. Exactly what the gameplay will look like is not yet known. All we know is that we’ll be taking on the roles of a wide variety of characters and striving to take each other down in arenas.

What else is there to know? In Hunters you have a range of quite colourful characters to choose from. There’s the Mandalorian Aran Tal, the Sith warrior Rieve, bounty hunter Imara Vex, Ughnaut Slingshot, ex-Stormtrooper Sentinel, rebel fighter Zaina, Wookie Grozz the … Robot Jedi J-3DI and two Jawas in a trench coat with the common(?) name Utooni.

New Star Wars games yet to be officially confirmed

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2

What is known so far? That a sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order is coming is an open secret. The first part was EA’s most successful Star Wars launch ever and was celebrated by critics and players alike. In addition, industry insider Jason Schreier has already revealed that EA has given the sequel the green light.

Last but not least, developer Respawn Entertainment was looking for reinforcements for a new Star Wars project via a job advertisement. So the official announcement of Jedi: Fallen Order 2 is only a matter of time. It is also known that the studio would like to continue the story of Cal Kestis and his droid companion BD-1.

What else is there to know? Provided development on Jedi: Fallen Order 2 has already begun in December 2019, it should still be a while before we can actually play the sequel, despite existing assets and tools. So don’t expect an official announcement until 2022 at the earliest.

Story game from Quantic Dream

What is known so far? According to several insiders and rumours, Quantic Dream is working on a new game in the Star Wars universe – i.e. the developer that primarily focuses on single-player games with a strong story focus. The studio’s best-known titles include Detroit: Become Human, Beyond: Two Souls, Heavy Rain and Fahrenheit, of course. According to a report from (Kotaku), the game is expected to be much more action-heavy than previous projects and even feature open-world as well as multiplayer elements.

What else is there to know? According to the unofficial information, Quantic Dream has already been working on a Star Wars game for 18 months, but the real development did not start until mid-2021. Accordingly, the release of the final product could still be quite a while away.

VR game for The High Republic

What is known so far? According to Cinelinx, Disney is currently working on a VR game for The High Republic – the new Star Wars era, which is currently primarily explored with novels and comics. There are currently no plans for movies, but the new TV series The Acolyte for Disney Plus is also supposed to take place in this era. However, this rumour should be treated with caution.

Here’s what else there is to know
: The story of the title is supposed to take place at the time of the High Republic – about 200 years before the events of Episode 1 – The Dark Menace. At that time, the Galactic Republic is at its peak, Jedi act as a kind of Texas Ranger and patrol individual sectors of the universe. However, not all is peace, joy and happiness in the High Republic and the space Vikings of the Nihil are upsetting the order.

The Mandalorian

What is known so far? The Disney series The Mandalorian has quickly proven to be a huge success and will be expanded with more seasons in the future. It is possible that the titular Mandalorian Din Djarin will soon be transported to a video game as well, as rumours of this have been around for some time.

For the first time in April 2021, an insider claimed that a game about The Mandalorian was in development. However, he did not reveal any details. Officially, a video game for The Mandalorian has not yet been announced. Disney and Lucasfilm Games are silent on the subject and do not participate in any speculation.

What else is there to know? The speculation gained new momentum in August, when there was a supposed gameplay leak showing a classic third-person shooter.

The emphasis, however, is on alleged, because the gameplay scenes are very likely just a very elaborate fake by a fan. What was seen in the leak and what speaks for and against authenticity.

We’ll add more Star Wars video games to the article as we know more. What kind of game in the Star Wars universe would you like to see? Post it in the comments
