Seems like the streaming war is going into the next round: YouTube is trying to increase its accessibility as a streaming platform.

YouTube seems to have an eye on Twitch with some of its latest updates. The platform has brought several changes for its streamers. For example, the video giant announced on Wednesday that the clipping tool had now been updated. This means it is now easier to use and should offer more options. The tests for this already began in January.

In addition, YouTube is bringing two more features: an integrated poll tool, as well as the option to offer chat only to subscribers. With these changes, it looks like YouTube has stepped up a gear in the fight against Twitch.

That YouTube is paying more and more attention to its streamers is no surprise. The site has become increasingly popular as a streaming platform in recent years. Especially the collaborations with big influencers like Rachell “Valkyrae” Hofstetter or Jack “CouRage” Dunlop increased YouTube’s status. After Herschel “Dr DisRespect” Beahm IV was banned from Twitch, YouTube serves as his new home. Streaming has established itself as its own major category on the site, which is now being specifically promoted.

Although Twitch is still the undisputed leader and takes the largest market share among streaming platforms, YouTube is clearly catching up. Competitors like Mixer have quickly disappeared and YouTube now seems to be aiming for Twitch’s place. This form of competition should be beneficial for both viewers and content creators, especially after the criticism of Twitch in recent months.
