If you need something to keep you busy over the weekend and want to save some money, you should take a closer look at the military shooter Exfil.

No loot, no frills. That’s how the developers of Exfil describe their shooter. The military simulation is supposed to offer pure FPS action without neglecting tactical depth. If this has made you prick up your ears, you shouldn’t plan too much for the weekend: Exfil is currently free to play.

What’s in Exfil

(Go to the free offer on Steam)

At its core, Exfil is similar to Escape from Tarkov; an extraction shooter So you don’t just have to kill enemies on a map, you also have to escape alive at the end. Exfil also offers an asymmetric mode called Rogue Extraction: here, a small team must outmaneuver a larger force and escape with the information they have collected.

The developers particularly emphasize the realism of their game: In Exfil, you not only have to expect bullet drop, but also ricochets and penetration. The latter, of course, depends on the weapon and the material hit.

Exfil is not finished yet. The game has been in early access for almost a month and has 72 percent positive reviews on Steam. While that’s solid, Exfil has a big problem: Hardly anyone is playing the title. Exfil only cracked more than a hundred concurrent players on a single day shortly after release – until now.

The free promotion is already bearing fruit, with Exfil reaching a new peak of 161 simultaneous users, and the offer has only just started. Whether the title can maintain the momentum after the free promotion and has convinced the new additions to buy, however, remains to be seen.

Currently, Exfil is competing with a completely different shooter game that was released at a similar time and is consistently free: Marvel Rivals is anything but realistic and has tons of bells and whistles, but it certainly still eats up a lot of time of FPS fans
