For fast travel in New World, you first have to track down ghost shrines. For observant players, however, a glance at the map will suffice.
Without mounts, there’s one thing you’ll be doing a lot of in New World: running. Quest objectives are often far apart, which makes additional fast travel points very welcome. However, you first have to find and activate the necessary spirit shrines.
Those who have already played the beta may now be groaning about the next agonising collection task. In fact, however, the shrines can be found very easily by looking at the map.
There, even undiscovered quick travel points are marked with a unique symbol. No matter where you zoom in on the map – if you spot a light yellow square with a rectangle sticking out of it, a ghost shrine is hiding there. The dotted line around it also indicates that it is an important place:
You can then travel there specifically to comfortably jump back into the area in the future. If you are nearby, you should also notice a beam of light shooting up into the sky from the shrine. However, some players report that the light signal is bogged down for them – so the map symbol remains more reliable. If you drive directly over the question mark there, a small image becomes visible that points to a travel point.

Fast travel in New World: costs, destinations and more
Where can I fast travel to? Once unlocked, you can travel to other shrines via such a spirit shrine and also travel to other zones, settlements or outposts. The other way round, travelling from these places is also possible – no matter if you want to go there or not, you just have to have visited them beforehand.
However, you cannot currently travel to all of the shrines that have been uncovered – some only serve as starting points, but not as end points. If it works, simply select the location on the map and you’re there.
But you have to pay first, because fast travel is not free. You have to invest in a resource called Azoth – the magic mineral that makes everyone on the island of Aeternum go crazy. How much of it you need depends on the distance and the weight of your journey – in other words, the items and equipment you carry. If you belong to the faction or company that currently rules the region, there is a discount. On average, you pay 50 Azoth within a zone and 75 when travelling to another.
The inns offer a free travel option. As in WoW, you can return to them from anywhere if you have confirmed the place as your quarters beforehand. Once applied, however, you must wait for a one-hour cooldown before you can jump back.
How do I get Azoth?
The easiest way to earn the resource is as a quest reward. Not every mission yields Azoth, but some yield 20 or more, so you’ll soon have a certain supply. You can also earn it at the breaches where corrupted monsters lurk in the world. Strong enemies also drop it as loot.
Azoth is also used as currency when you want to reset your skills. Or you can refine your weapons with the additional crafting ingredient – so think carefully beforehand about where you need it most.
If you run out of other resources, a clearly arranged MMO fan map will help. Whether New World is convincing in terms of gameplay in the beta is less easy to answer.
