As industry insider Jason Schreier has reportedly learned, the big next Assassins Creed game with a yet unknown title will be postponed to 2023. At least that’s the first, as yet unconfirmed rumours. According to this, the title, which has been in production for some time, has been postponed to spring 2023.

A report published on (Bloomberg) states that the new part of Ubisoft’s premium series will be codenamed “Rift” and will introduce AC: Valhalla character Basim as the main protagonist. This part is supposed to be the beginning of a new saga and is set in the Middle East, which seems fitting for Basim’s character. After all, at the beginning of Valhalla, the assassin introduced himself to us as an agent of a secret order from the Orient. However, it is still unclear whether the game will tell Basim’s back story or take place after the plot of Valhalla.

The article by Schreier also reveals that the title was originally intended as an expansion for the last Assassins Creed game, but was then turned into a full-fledged title in its own right during the course of production. According to insider information, the development, which is being carried out by Ubisoft’s branch in Bordeaux, needs more time than expected. For this reason, Schreier assumes a release in the period from May to June 2023. There will be enough Ubisoft content until then with the open-world pirate adventure Skull and Bones as well as another AC: Valhalla DLC.

Officially, however, “Rift” has not yet been announced. There could be more news about it in September, when Ubisoft wants to inform about the future of the Assassins Creed games and the live service AC project “Infinity”. But according to this, not everything is going smoothly in Ubisoft’s current financial year. Because as was recently announced, this time officially confirmed, the licensed open-world action adventure Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is also delayed by about a year. Let’s hope that the postponements will have a positive effect on the development process and the finished games.
