Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, one of the best role-playing games ever, in high resolution on the console. This is what many Witcher fans wished for. But as CD Projekt Red has now revealed, the implementation for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S has been delayed indefinitely. We’ll tell you why and how long we’ll have to wait.

The development studio Saber Interactive was originally responsible for the development of the next-gen version of Witcher 3. But for reasons still unknown, the Polish parent studio of Witcher, CD Projekt, now took over the work on it themselves. They were probably simply not satisfied with the result and wanted to make sure that the finished product met their own requirements and quality standards.

After last April’s postponement, this is the second time Witcher fans have been put off. But considering the crises of the last few years, especially in the wake of the Cyberpunk release, it’s only understandable that CD Projekt Red doesn’t want to do anything wrong here and wants to serve the players a finished and polished product. When it is released in the second quarter of 2022, the next-gen upgrade will also be free for owners of the PC, Xbox One and PS4 versions. Otherwise, the new version will be available separately in all shops. A fine solution that should reinforce CD Projekt’s position with gamers as a developer that cares about its customers and doesn’t rip them off.

How this will affect work on the freshly announced new Witcher instalment, developed in the Unreal engine and intended to open up a whole new saga, is too early to say. But it shouldn’t be any faster because CD Projekt now has to plan additional resources for the Witcher 3 Next-Gen version.

For Cyberpunk 2077, on the other hand, there was a next-gen version at the beginning of the year that actually makes the game better and, above all, more playable. It is likely that the developers want to do just as good a job here, as they know that Witcher has a very high standing with an incredible number of gamers.
