On November 11, 2024, Nintendo presented a special edition of Nintendo Direct. This was dedicated exclusively to the new Donkey Kong Country area in Universal Studios Japan’s SUPER NINTENDO WORLD. This presentation, which lasted about ten minutes, offered fans worldwide a first detailed glimpse of the upcoming expansion of the theme park.

Shigeru Miyamoto, legendary creator of Mario and Donkey Kong, personally hosted the presentation and introduced the various attractions and highlights of the new area. A central highlight is the family roller coaster “Mine-Cart Madness”. This takes visitors into the world of Donkey Kong and gives them the feeling of sitting in one of the iconic mine carts. The ride promises an exciting experience for guests of all ages.

In addition to the coaster, the Donkey Kong Country area offers an immersive environment. This brings to life the lush jungle landscapes and characteristic elements of the game series. Visitors can enjoy interactive experiences that allow them to take on the role of Donkey Kong and his friends and overcome challenges that could come directly from the games.

Donkey Kong is not only on display in Japan

The official opening of the Donkey Kong Country area at Universal Studios Japan is scheduled for December 11, 2024. But that’s not all. Nintendo announced that this area will also be part of the SUPER NINTENDO WORL at Universal Epic Universe in Orlando, Florida. The opening is scheduled for May 22, 2025.

These expansions underscore Nintendo’s commitment to bringing its iconic game worlds into the real world. This offers fans the opportunity to experience their favorite games in completely new ways. The combination of interactive attractions, themed environments and the magic of Nintendo characters promises an unforgettable experience for visitors to the theme parks. The Nintendo Museum, which opened its doors at the beginning of October, also makes use of this feeling. You can find out more about this in the following article.
