Nintendo Switch 2: An overview of the known innovations so far

The leaks seem to have been accurate for the most part. The console will be available in a black version with turquoise and peach accents.

Screen: The display diagonal has grown. Nintendo has not yet shared any technical specifications, but it looks very much like the 8-inch screen of the leaked dummy models.

Joy-Cons:In terms of design, the new Joy-Cons look very similar to the old ones, but there are some important changes.

  • Magnetic mechanism:; a lever button on the back allows the Joy-Cons to be detached from the console. The satisfying click when reattaching them is still there.

  • Joy-Con as a mouse? Both Joy-Cons have a small opening on the side that could indicate an optical sensor. In addition, the new Joy-Con rails are open and in the trailer the controllers fly away like mice. A concrete confirmation of the new feature is still pending.

  • New button: In the bottom right, under the home button, you will now find a new unlabeled button. It is not yet clear what it is for.

  • Contacts, for the Joy-Cons: The contacts with which the controllers are connected to the console are located on the side of the console.

The dockhas a new design with rounded corners. Further innovations are not yet known.

Kickstand: The kickstand is now u-shaped and offers a wide range of viewing angles.

New Joy-Con Grip: The new controller grip for the two new Joy-Cons also has a magnetic connector.
