Rebirth has a new hybrid dino and the movie’s creators reveal which legendary movie monsters served as inspiration.

A T-Rex isn’t big and dangerous enough for you? Then you don’t have to worry about Jurassic World Rebirth, because the latest film in the 32-year-old sci-fi franchise once again features a hybrid dino.

A pretty ugly lad

Yes, in fact, pretty much all the dinosaurs in the Jurassic Park series are hybrids.(Thanks for the 20-minute lecture, Steffi). But what we’re talking about here are the completely insane combinations that are the wet dream of every mad scientist – such as the Indominus rex or Indoraptor.

From July 2, 2025, such a monster will once again be stalking the screen as soon as Jurassic World Rebirth opens in theaters. And for the latest mega-dino, director Gareth Edwards and co. have been inspired by a handful of the nastiest movie monsters.

  • the good old T-Rex from Jurassic Park
  • the Rancor from the Star Wars universe
  • H.R. Gigers Xenomorph from Alien.

What will it look like? The first trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth gave us a brief glimpse:

In concrete terms, Gareth Edwards told Vanity Fair the following about it:

When you design a new creature, you take a big, fat pot and put all your favorite monsters from movies and books into it. A little rancor here, a little H.R. Giger there, and another pinch of T-Rex…

But how exactly does that fit with the Jurassic Park canon?Gareth Edwards also addressed this. The action of the new film takes place on a new, previously undiscovered island, where the group around Zora Benett (Scarlett Johansson), Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey) and Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali) ends up.

And that’s where all the failures that John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) and his scientists left behind live there:

These are the dinosaurs that didn’t work out. There are some mutations. They’re all based on real dinosaur science, but they look a little bit different.

Jurassic World Rebirth opens in theaters on July 2, 2025. As already mentioned, Gareth Edwards is responsible for directing, who previously directed films such as Godzilla, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and The Creator. Edwards himself hopes to kick off a new Jurassic World trilogy with Rebirth. Whether that really happens, however, will depend on the success of the latest film.
