Elon Musk announced that he would have the Twitter logo cut off the building with blowtorches. In the end it was just cordless screwdrivers.

Not much time has passed since Elon Musk announced that Twitter would become X.com in the future. In the meantime, Twitter is literally on the ground.

Already on the afternoon of 24 July 2023, the letters on the sign of the headquarters were removed. Pictures and videos of this can be found in abundance.

In fact, even the SFPD, the San Francisco Police Department, showed up on the scene because there was probably a misunderstanding around an unlicensed crane.

Elon Musk had announced, probably while playing Diablo IV, that the Twitter logo would be cut out of the building with blowtorches. In the end, it was just standard cordless screwdrivers.

Elon Musk changes logo – twice

The bird was shot down and replaced by an X. Musk immediately indicated that this would be a temporary logo anyway. In the meantime, an X with thicker strokes appeared (seen in the lead image), but the billionaire wasn’t satisfied with that either.

As he himself wrote in response to the above tweet, he didn’t like the bold strokes and had the logo changed back. According to Musk, the logo will evolve over time anyway.

@twitter is now @x

The official Twitter handle has been switched off, the new one is now @x. This formerly belonged to a Gene X Hwang who runs a photography and videography studio.

Whether Twitter bought the handle from him is not clear. Hwang put up a tweet under the new handle @x1234567998765 and at least seems to be taking it with humour.

Many Twitter handles like @TwitterSupport or @TwitterDev have been renamed accordingly, while various regional handles like those of Twitter Japan or Twitter India are not yet affected.

We’ll keep you posted on further changes at Twitter – or if Elon Musk plans to invest a billion dollars in a supercomputer.

Elon Musk’s apparent hair-trigger move is keeping the tech world busy. Without further ado, he has simply renamed one of the largest social networks in the world. What do you think of the new name? Do you think this rebranding might play into the hands of Meta and Threads? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments
